Swinney implores students, fans to stay for entire game against Wake Forest
Clemson students have complained about the way student football tickets are being handled this season, but a majority of the students left the stadium early during the Tigers’ win over Boston College a week ago. Head coach Dabo Swinney noticed and said the students need to be there early and stay late when the Tigers host a 4-1 Wake Forest team this weekend. Full Story » |

I do it every game. At my seat before the National Anthem and stay till the end of the game. Don't even leave my seat at halftime. Blessed to be able to attend games and won't miss a moment. GO TIGERS!!!!

The way they distribute student tickets is counter productiv

to them staying. They can't camp out and get tickets with their friends. That is the best part of student tickets, 1. Camping out all week for big games, that build friendships and camaraderie with other students you don't know; B. You get tickets together with your friends.
Clemson games are awesome, but if you can't sit with your friends, then it isn't as fun. I bet those of us who get season tickets wouldn't be happy if we didn't sit with our families.
Just found this out. Changed my mind about being so PO'd at the students.

As a current student here at Clemson, we can still sit with our friends, we just have to enter the stadium at the same time, with tickets to the same area. My issue is with the Hill. Seems to me like every game there is a bunch of people event security is not letting on the Hill every game, which is why it's never full.

The Hill with the Gestapo security guards, whom I assume they are bringing in from Columbia. Look at the picture in the Auburn game program of the hill in 1966 when they first put the rock there. It was packed then and has been pack for a lot of games for 50 years since then. Why the change of policy now? Someone in the administration seems to have loyalties to other schools. Make the green unseen again on The Hill

So please explain what my daughter is doing wrong. She and her 4 roommates are sophomores and Iptay College club members. Only 2 of them have been able to secure tickets and those were for different games, one for Auburn and one Wake. They cant get GM tickets and like the previous poster said, going with friends is fun.

They can't. Hill tickets are GM and there aren't enough available. My student hasn't been able to get a ticket to any of the games and she's in the IPTAY College Club as well.

I was not trying to insult the students. I would like to see them show appreciation for the fact they are the only student body in the power 5 conferences that don't have to pay extra for their tickets by filling the stadium and staying for the whole game. I'm hoping the BC game was an anomaly. It certainly seemed unusual to me. Also, my 4 years as a student were some of the best times of my life. My advice to current students is enjoy it to the fullest!!! GO TIGERS!

As my student explained it to me, the current distribution system doesn't allow students to get tickets together and who wants to go alone? For example, one of her 4 roommates got a ticket for the Auburn game and it was upper deck. But she was the only one in their group of friends to get a ticket. So she had to go alone- not much fun for a 19 year old girl. The Auburn game was a special game and thought the rest of the season would be different. None of my daughters friends have scored tickets since until this week when, once again, 1 kid got 1 upper deck seat to Wake.

Let's Go, and Let's Stay for the whole game. What a pure blessing to be living during the absolute best time in Clemson Football history (and yes, I was there for the Danny Ford era, but this one is even better than that). Don't look back years from now on this extremely successful time in Clemson history, and have to think up an excuse as to why somebody missed it.

It's sad that the greatest coach we've ever had even has to bring this up in the midst of the greatest run we've ever had. People leaving early every chance they got won't realize what they have until it's gone.

Why would anyone want to leave a game early?
Oct 1, 2017, 8:31 PM
|
|
I recall times and times that Clemson got beaten badly at home and on the road, but my wife and I stayed. There were a bunch of other fans who also stayed and waited to applaud the players while running out.
Moments like these are what make me who I am today and what mak Clemson great.
For those who have a chance, stay and enjoy the moment as long as you can and while you can. There are others, like me, who wish they could be there every single week to enjoy this greatest time in Clemson history.

I agree with you. It is such a privilege to see this team play. I remember sitting through the Orange Bowl against WVU to the bitter end. My son still wears the sweatshirt from that game. It's a great reminder to be humble and appreciate what we have right now!

I would love to play WVU with their coach again. I hope Dabo would open up a can on them and set a new scoring record. What a whiney voiced little twit (sp).

I too was there when the season results were 2-7-2.. I was disappointed, but thankful for every game opportunity to watch my Tigers play. I remember being elated at 7-4 and 8-3 seasons.
Be thankful for Dabo and our wonderful staff, and the opportunities and blessings we're experiencing! BE THERE! GO TIGERS!!!

When we were able to attend the games our tickets were not sold by the quarter, they were for the whole game. Stay in your #### seats until the game is over. The team needs to know we have their back always!!!

Heard that too, but leaving early is only part of it. I think a bigger part is leaving at half time and not returning until near the end of the third quarter. No way to get out of the stadium, get a drink and snack and return before the start of the 3rd quarter even with the closest parking. Ought to eliminate this.

Pass outs at halftime are one of our greatest traditions.

Not everyone wants to stay in for the halftime show and some people (especially poor students) want to grab a free drink and eat a free sandwich instead of paying at the concession stands. I leave at halftime, and I can easily down a cold beer or coca cola, eat a quick bite and be back before the start of the 3rd quarter. I've done it countless times.

Tigers In Stadium Change The Game
Oct 2, 2017, 11:48 AM
|
|
Think about this. It was the 1980 Homecoming game against the VT Gobblers (Hokies) and in the 4th quarter with the score 13-7, Tigers in front, the Gobblers were in the red zone....
"The biggest series of the game came in the fourth quarter with the Tigers leading 13-7. VPI was knocking on Clemson's door but the Tigers would not answer. The Clemson fans finally woke up with huge roars before every play and VPI quarterback Steve Casey was helpless. At one point, it took Tech sixteen minutes to run one play. On fourth down at the six-inch line, the Tigers and their fans held. A huge roar caused a Tech offensive tackle to look up and his movement cost the Gobblers five yards and the game." (TAPS 1981).
We changed the outcome of that game and I was one of them. Tiger students who would have never thought about leaving, but instead taking the field from their seats and screaming and pushing the Tigers to a win. "...sixteen minutes to run one play". SIXTEEN MINUTES!!
Yes you need to be there all game long because collectively you are the 12th man on the field and you cannot be stopped if you have the will to win and are there to use it.
GO TIGERS! All Game, ALL TIGERS!

I agree. I was a student from 1980 - 1984. The crowd was such a factor during the 1981 championship season!! And at that time we didn't have an upper deck on the north stands and there were just some aluminum bleachers in the West End Zone!!

I have been going to games as often as I could, both home and away, since the late 70's and I can count on one hand the number of times that I have left a game before the final seconds ticked off the clock. For years, my kids would ask, "Dad, can we go ahead and leave? The game is practically over." I would always explain to them that the game isn't over until the band plays the Alma Mater after the clock has expired. Eventually they quit asking. Now as juniors at Clemson, my two oldest implore their fellow students to stay and sing the Alma Mater with them after the game. Guess I can say that my message to them took. Now if we can only get the rest of the students to do the same.
Also, not sure what the issue is with the ticket allocations and such, but in the two plus years that my boys have been students, they have never not received a student ticket and they always sit with their friends.
