Robbie Tinsley: Despite losses, Tigers keep winning
he way the Clemson football team — particularly the Clemson offense — was discussed in the build-up to the 2017 season echoed a dystopian novel. The apocalyptic event? The loss of transcendent quarterback Deshaun Watson, along with a sizable portion of the skill-position players who led the Tigers to the program’s second national championship in January. Great article, but likely confused and disoriented 90% of T-Net readers with the first sentence.

Awfully smug statement. But maybe you don't see that. Looking down your nose so high up on your righteous pedestal.

Tavien Feaster needs some work

I know Tavien Feaster has undeniable running ability above the other running backs but I saw a couple of times of what Tony Elliot was talking about in terms of pass protection where he didn't successfully hold his block which resulted in a sack. I think that's why Fuller is on paper the starter but yes, Feaster would have had an even higher average carry rate than 9.2 on Saturday in the game if Milan Richard came and got his block faster which resulted in a tfl on Feaster. Also so many times I look at Feaster and this guy needs more reps n field. Literally in the game he had 3 runs probably more where he had everyone beat except for literally 1 guy who barely trips him up. He could be on Heisman watch if he took over fulltime position. But, I'm sort of glad Dabo has given chances to Fuller and choice to earn reps to see if he can out them in the NFL and Fuller and choice are great short yardage backs.

I never write a post like this. I abhor criticizing others as a rule, but this is needed, imo. Tinsley goes well beyond creative writing to make two simple points; Clemson is better offensively than expected and their defense is as stout as predicted. The way his point is made is just wrong.
First of all, who the h@#$ knows what a dystopian novel is. I do now cause I looked it up. Unfortunately, it's totally misrepresented (if you care) given the subject (Clemson Tiger team 2017). No it's not like George Orwell's novel "1984" about disinformation of the Government to change the opinion of society. His point is valid but way overblown. I'd say a D+ if I remember my creative writing from Clemson 35+ years ago. Yeah, the ESPN "experts" got it wrong again about the Tigers. Say that, not Dystopian novel.
Insult next. He adds an analogy of an apocalyptic event. To believers, this is so wrong. It's an analogy that has no real bearing on College football. To say or infer that losing DW4 and company is akin to an apocalypse is just sophomoric if not blasphemy. It's really bad writing, imo.
To be sure, Tinsley's point is valid. His method is not creative, but wrong.

Dude. For reals?

Dystopian doesn't mean misinformation. 1984 iz just an example of a dystopia. Many are apocalyptic, like a bomb wipes half the people out ... or disease ... or graduation.
It was well written and addressed not only the ESPN talking heads but the prevailing opinion of the Clemson program this year. It works because the hero has to put something back together that was (or appeared to be) broken ... and you don't know if they can do it or not.
Fantasy is a literary tool to comment on current events like politics, war ... and apparently also football.
If this type of post isn't something you usually do, then why did you start with this article? The next time Dabo asks the press why they keep asking about who left, you'll remember this story and realize that he got it right.
You see, every dystopian storyline forces the characters (and the reader (er, fan)) to make a choice. Do I focus on all I've lost ... or on what I still have? Or wven better: on how to move forward and build a better world.
Go Tigers! Let's go get another one!

Sorry fellow Tiger. Your response falls short. Why that post fell short of the mark is it did not even remotely mirror Tiger football. There was no fantasy in how our team has done this year. Do I have to explain that to Tnet. We're 3-0 against 2 top 15 teams. Better than last year which was pretty special.
Yeah, I love a good fictional novel that edges into fantasy land. When it comes to my Tigers, which is non-fiction real life, just let me know the facts, or failing that some salient opinion that addresses the team. Analogies are great, if used wisely. We can disagree whether the posted article satisfied that. LOL

Recently it seems half of the popular movie series are based on dystopian novels. Yeah, I didn't need to look that term up. And referring to losing Watson as an apocalyptic event is hyperbole which fits well with the theme of his article. Objections noted, but he still gets an "A".

I wouldn't say no great loss.... they were. But as with all college football players. They move on.
The loss of those two coaches, we will see. But coaches too, come and go.

Referring to how much offense we lost when Watson, Williams, Gallman and others move on. Fricking Lee Corso has been predicting our demise since forever. But somehow he always manages to be wrong.

Great article. Living in south GA, I don't get to read in depth about the Tigers, except on Tnet. David and Daniel do a good job getting the facts down, but it is nice to have a new voice!

I have no problem the dystopian/apocalypse analogy...

And I'm being a little picky, but it went CLANG! when I read it - it's not "could Bryant SURE up his grasp on the starting job at quarterback". It is SHORE up his grasp. Otherwise a good article.

I honestly had no idea that I was using that idiom incorrectly. Always heard it in my head as "sure(d) up).
Thank you (and the other poster in this thread) for pointing that out.
