RichRod watches phsyical start to practice, depth chart takes shape
Once Monday’s practice ends, only one practice will separate the Clemson football team from the annual spring game and the official end of spring practice, so head coach Dabo Swinney made sure Monday got off to a physical start. It was so physical that defensive tackle Albert Huggins ended an early confrontation with his jersey numbers hanging in tatters. Full Story » |

If our defense is really that good, I bet Kelly Bryant will be our guy.

a running game that's as effective as theirs we need a QB that can do more than manage a game. And as good as our defense has been the last few years, theirs has still been even better.

That is the point of KB at QB in the comment...

He has proven himself as a great runner at QB.
Still don't like the idea though. We got off to great starts last year, then "managed" the game and let too many teams come back.

Kelly Bryant isn't near as good as Jalen Hurts, he was a true freshman out there. And, he did have a limited passing game but he made good decisions as to when to throw, run, hand off etc. - jmo.

We won't make the playoffs WITHOUT a game manager.
We have four quarterbacks with the physical skills to win another title for us. The question is, "what's screwed onto their shoulders?"
If any one of them has a fast enough head to deal with what the defenses are throwing at him and a cool enough head to run the two minute drill with the whole world watching, we'll be fine.
...and if these guys can't, Hunter Renfrow will be the starting quarterback and HE'LL win the last game of the season for us.

You know what i mean. The term "game manager" has come

to describe a mediocre QB that isn't good enough to take over a game or put a team on his back, but is competent enough to not make a lot of crucial mistakes and lose games either.
I'm not claiming any of our QBs are going to be game managers, but if that's what we end up with at QB I don't think we will be good enough offensively to win a title. We relied really, really heavily on Watson and the passing game the last two years and even if our defense is amazing and our running game is better, i still think we need at least an above average QB back there to get us to the playoff.

There's no QB at Clemson Mediocre.

Until this last season, until Hurts, Bama's only had game managers at QB. They won with them, lost with Hurts.
To put in it in everyday language, every QB on the team is as good as Parker(Tucker) or Boyd. Just imagine either one of those 2, even Cullen Harper on this team, more talent than either of those 3 ever played with. Dye(great in 09 in 10 he couldn't catch a cold),Jones and Ash as WR's, Clemson has come along quite nicely.
KB2 is being called a freak by players on Clemson's D,he'll be fine. The question,do Coop and the Huntsman keep getting better and better and push for the job. So far,I've read nothing saying that they are pushing for the job, just that all are improving.

Agree with the fine lady...but...
While most appreciative of the descriptive 'Salty defense', it's really quite hard to remain humble.

Must be nice to leave a job 17 years ago and move away but still have a house there on the lake. I wonder how often he comes back and stays there? That's pretty cool though. Even rich rod knows there's something special in them hills, and water.

Many of you might not remember, but we have had our coaching staff go visit other schools too! My memory is not so good, but I think it may have been early in Dabo's tenure. If I remember correctly, we went to the University of Nevada after the 2010 season to study their offense and pick up new ideas.
Kinda surprised Hunter Johnson wasn't mentioned more in the article. I thought he was coming on strong.
