New contract places Swinney in top ten nationally
The Clemson University Board of Trustees approved a new contract for head coach Dabo Swinney during a meeting Tuesday morning, guaranteeing that Swinney will be among the highest-paid coaches in all of college football and the second-highest in the Atlantic Coast Conference behind Florida St.’s Jimbo Fisher. If he was a money hungry person that cared more about himself than his staff he would be. Dabo spreads the wealth to his deserving assistants vs hoarding it for himself. He knows they make him successful and he makes sure they get compensated at a compensatory level for that success.

He's only 300K from being 4th on the list...

I'm not saying he's money hungry, but he is getting paid about 5th nationally and he doesn't coordinate the offense or defense like most of those top guys do.
Jimbo is the head coach and offensive coordinator.
I think he deserves every penny of what we are paying him, but I also don't think he's some sort of "saint" by only wanting 5.1 million

Funny really, considering he's beaten 2, 3 and 4 on the list

If we could make a tackle on kick returns, could add #1 to it too.

So he cut his contract back a year from the original 8 year

signed. So he's expecting Saban to retire in 5 years, and he can leave when his contract expires...no buyout, no regrets, no obligations.
Nice plan.

Wondering if all the hype about seeing DW4 in the spring game, was more motivated by upcoming contract???
I was disapointed to see him in for 3-4 series.
Don't get me wrong, as a business fulcrum it was a good idea. Being able to get 50,000+ to a spring game makes a strong point to your influence.
Think he should of been atleast top 3, with what he has been able to prove.

Top 3 might of been kinda high, have to agree if he solved the special teams issue in a timely fashion or at all prob would of be much higher. But I wouldn't be surprised if he spread the wealth around to keep his guys together, happy and knowing they were valued.

Franklin is a good coach. Just entered a tough situation up there. I expect he'll build it back.

With the exception of Harbaugh, all ahead of him have one a natty. When he wins the natty this year he probably has a clause in that will escalate him into a minimum of the average of the top three, think that might have been,in his old contract. He got a very good deal, glad Clemson ponies up, he is worth every penny.

like Charlie Strong, Kevin Sumlin, James Franklin and possibly Hugh Freeze may be slightly over-paid for the results they produce.

Wow, some of you are crying about how much he's getting paid but you would also cry if we were still a mediocre program? Are you ever happy? He deserves this contract based on results and the appearance of the foreseeable future and I have absolutely no problem with it.

I know the big story is the money, but I thought they'd

extend the length of the contract. When the 2014 contract was signed it went through 2021, eight seasons. This one didn't extend the length one day. I though they'd make this one go to 2023, another eight season period.
What are the buyout numbers for Dabo to pay should he ever want to leave?
Glad Dabo is here. He's the best football coach we've ever had.

I'm thinking not winning the natty probably cost HCDS being #4 on the list.

There should be buyout stipulation that will have him pay back every penny they give him so he doesnt leave.
On a serious note, im super happy the school decided that this man is worth more then the lousy crap they were paying him. Hope he sticks around after 2021.
