Johnson on Barrett comments: I don't think I was wrong
Jadar Johnson was right after all. Clemson’s senior safety came under fire earlier this week when he made comments about Ohio St. quarterback J.T. Barrett, saying that Barrett wasn’t one of the best quarterbacks Clemson has faced this season and that Barrett wasn’t extremely accurate. Full Story » |

So what you are saying is he reduced the lifespan of the 0hio fan base by 2 years and only needed 11 carries to do it?

While Jadar's comments were/are true regarding Barrett, I sure wish he would keep these kinds of comments out of the media and confined to the locker room.

Why??? He was respectful and truthful. It's just that media types try to create narratives...that do not exist. I'm pretty sure, you're going to say he should have known this but, what does it matter? It certainly didn't change the results of the game. Let the media say what they want. It is very refreshing when young men speak their mind in a respectful and truthful manner. Hats off to Jadar. Up next is Alabama...with another weak quarterback. We'll see. Take care.

I guess I just come from an older generation where you remain positive and complimentary of your opponent. I may think your sister is ugly - doesn't mean I have to publicly tell everyone what I think of her if I'm asked.
There are ways Jadar could have answered any question about JT Barrett's abilities and gotten his point across. He could have said: "JT Barrett is a talented QB and has led his team to 11 victories; but you know we have faced quite a few talented quarterbacks in the ACC this season and go up against the best QB in the nation every day in practice".
I think Jadar got the message from Dabo - sometimes it is better to keep some truthful thoughts to oneself.

II'm not sure as to why you think I'm not from that same older generation? It's a sad thing when every kid's response has to be sanctioned by political correctness. Your illustration of an ugly sister is not a good one. J'adar said nothing negative about the quarterback...he simply told us about what he feels about the quarterback's abilities. He even said that he doesn't think he's a bad quarterback. We have seen film on the Ohio State's quarterback. He doesn't have that great of a game. Why is that so hard to admit? Or rather, Jadar could have massaged the truth and a it simply becomes a lie in disguise? Let's just stop interviewing players if we don't want to hear the truth without any malice. Instead, let's just continue to throw coaches out there who're complimentary and more political. Talk is insignificant (cheap) when you get on the football field. Take care.

I guess we can just agree to disagree but it ain't about political correctness. It's about having class, courtesy, and not being braggadocios. I don't disagree with Jadar's opinion of JT Barrett - but keeping ones thoughts and comments to oneself ain't lying. This is especially true when such comments are made before you have actually played against the opposing QB without any first hand experience as to how the opposing QB performs against you. If Jadar's original comment had been made after the game, I still would not have liked it, but at least Jadar would be basing his orginal statement from the facts of how JT Barrett actually played against Clemson and not from some video tape comparison against other opponents. As it turns out Jadar was right, but if JT Barrett had lit us up then Jadar would be eating crow right now. Dabo obviously didn't think Jadar's comments were very smart and based on this follow up article, neither does Jadar.
Since you don't like the sister analogy, I'll give you another. When Dabo was asked last night how Clemson managed to shut-out Ohio State, he could have said:
"Well we clearly out-played, out-coached, and generally out-classed Ohio State in every facet of the game. Overall, Ohio State isn't as good as some of the other teams we have played this year and I think it showed on the field tonight and is reflected in the final score."
Dabo could very well have said those things after the game and they would all be true. However it would not have been smart or classy for Dabo to say these truthful things. Instead, Dabo has the common sense and class to make our victory about us (i.e. hard work in practice, playing our best game, heart of a champion, love for one another etc...) and avoids making truthful, but unnecessary, statements about Ohio State not being as good as other teams we have played.

..said he was a good QB. He was right. He said he wasn't the best we played. He was right. He said if they could stop his run, we would stand a good chance to win. Boy was he was right. About all of that. He said nothing demeaning or inflammatory. He simply spoke the truth in a non-derogatory way. I get what folks are saying that he should have taken the high road, and even he agrees, but geez it wasn't anything bad at all and he was right on all counts. We secretly limited the guy and destroyed their team. Please let's stop beating this dead horse and let it lie.

How many time did the media repeat Jadar's comments last night, it was about 6 dozen wasn't it. I agree still that he didn't say anything that wasn't untrue but, I hope in the future that our guys will keep their thoughts about other players to them selves!!!

It was ZERO IMPACT to the game and in fact played out exactly as Jadar said. It wasnt really bulletin board material at all - the media only tried to make it that way.

My thoughts about the 2017 Secondary
Jan 1, 2017, 11:08 AM
|
|
One of my biggest "?" marks for the 2017 team, isn't QB. It's the secondary, inpaticular our corners. I really hope Mullen QUICKLY moves into a starting role, and someone like Adrian Baker becomes a factor on the other side. Personally I really question how these guys are being coached up---I get, someone is going change the subject, and say....2 loses in 2 years, quite complaining. But it's all about getting better, and KEEPING THAT STREAK GOING....and not being complacient.
Also, on another note... who starts at WILL LB? #21

The defense was humming on all cylinders last night, and that's bc BV has figured out that everybody we have played up until last night has seen nothing has changed on film from the type of D we have run all year. He out smarted Urban and his coaches, they wasn't prepared for what BV was throwing at them. FB schemes should be changed up all the time bc when they're not, it leaves coaches time to get their teams ready for you when they are getting ready for easier teams on the schedules. No doubt that OUR offense needs some adjustments with changing thing around to confuse teams that we play on offense. We recruit some of the best and smartest FB players in the country, and I'm sure they can be taught to play the same offense in many different scenario's to make it harder to pick up on, and make it harder to prepare for!!!
