The Gamecock fans do actually relish that they create a hostile, over the edge environment there. That combined with the all the after the play hijinks (unrestrained by their coach) of the Gamecock players. I have never more enjoyed a ball game than Saturday night. Our kids showed a great deal of class by not getting drawn in to the post-play crap the Gamecocks were being allowed to do. The Tigers just let their play on the field make their statement for them (and emptied three fourths of the stadium in the process). The Gamecocks, all 8 of their wins coming against teams with losing records, got schooled on preparation, talent, dedication, and developed skill.

As for all the crap being thrown at the field and our players, Gamecock fans are blaming it on the Tigers walking toward the student section. The Tiger Walk done before the team breaks off into position drills has been around since Dabo became head coach. They knew it was coming. They do it every game. They do it every Clemson Carolina game. Gamecock fans were just using it as an excuse for being poor sports (even before the ball game started, wow!) and it continued sporadically throughout the ball game. So, Gamecock fans, this was not just a pregame thing. Why else would Dabo go nuts during the middle of the ball game? Because it continued well into the ball game.

The only way that I can see that would truly stop such things is for the NCAA or at least the conferences to step in and agree that if anything (ANYTHING) gets thrown from the stands to the playing surface once...it's a fifteen yard penalty and a public address warning. If it happens again, it should be somehow an automatic safety against the home team and then apply the post-safety free kick rules where in this case the home team would have to immediately turn the ball back over to the visiting team.

The only way to stop the antics in Columbia is for it to cost the team points!

This is a letter to Carolina fans from a Carolina graduate:

Dear Carolina,
Let me preface by saying that I’m not a Clemson fan, but do I respect their program, their coach, and the way they play their game? Absolutely.
Yesterday, I was able to walk campus, have a full heart, and remember why I fell in love with Carolina in the first place, but when I got to Willy B that was shattered.
I am disappointed. I am heartbroken. I can’t wrap my head around what happened last night.
While sitting in the upper deck for the first time not as a student, I had the worst experience I’ve ever had in Williams Brice. I felt disrespected, but even worse I felt terrible for my Clemson husband who I thought would be able to enjoy the game. Since when do we think it’s okay to throw pretzels, flip opposing fans the bird, and tell them to go home to their incest family? Who have we become?
To the student who I asked to be quiet during the invocation and who told me Jesus isn’t real, I pray and hope that you represent my alma mater better than that to all walks of life.
To the man behind me who told me that if Clemson was fighting the Taliban that you would bring towels screaming and fight to kill Clemson... I hope you know that we choose to serve in the military to defend your freedoms for you to even be able to say things like that and there are people out there dying for you every single day.
To the students throwing towels, trash, and whatever else - do you throw trash on the floor in your home? Do you throw full water bottles at your friends? Williams Brice is OUR home. It’s a place where people bring their families, their children. It’s a place where people build lifelong memories and experience 2001 and Sandstorm like nowhere else - but last night you took that away.
To the girls who were wearing very minimal clothing when it was sub 40 degrees outside, I can’t find the words to say, but I can say that I miss the cowboy boots and black dresses that our student section used to rock so well.
We were given the opportunity to play a great team on the national stage and we blew it. We made a FOOL of ourselves on the national stage. Is it about the score of the game? No. Is it about how much alcohol we can pound and how many cuss words we can throw around at other fans? No. It’s about the Southern hospitality we were given the opportunity to show and again we blew it.
I hope this isn’t a trend. I hope this behavior ends immediately. My heart is broken that our students, fans, and friends think that this behavior is acceptable. If you want our team to be better and continue to watch our team prosper under an amazing coaching staff - then you HAVE to be better. Is our team going to be better when the entire stadium leaves at halftime because they’re pouting about the game? No.
We all need to grow up and get a grip on reality. I can’t say I disagree with Dabo when he said last night was a total embarrassment not just for our school, but for our state.
Be better. Be the Carolina family we’re suppose to be.

As a Clemson fan, I also ask our students and fans too refrain from making remarks that are derogatory toward another team. Come on young people; like she said Clemson fans are better than this.
