Wishing Korrin all the best. We appreciate all the hard work and part he's played in Clemson's success. He's leaving with that valuable degree in hand. I think it was a helpful thing for the coaches to let him know that he's? being passed in playing opportunities and to be seen he needs to do his grad work at another school. In other words, best for his future opportunities.

Meaning switching him to another position or something? I don't get it. Doesn't sound like our staff would tell him they weren't going to use him. Would they? The article is a little confusing.

be sending people packing with his ability just because they are not starting. And no, I don't think they did it to do him a favor. I think its more like he complained about not being first team, the confirmed he was not first team and he decided to walk. That is really bad on his part if that's the way it played out. Bad on the staff's part if it played out the way you suggest. Why would any staff do that? Every staff would be ending their depth packing in order to "do them a favor" if that was the case.

doing a favor - is being honest with info and depth chart expectations. surely it's his decision to try and gain more playing time his senior year.
I have a LOT of faith in thinking our coaches are honest with the team and want them to best they can be. I seriously doubt we ran him off - that's not what I'm saying at all.

I was a little confused as well. It doesn't sound like they would say he "wasn't part of the plan" if their plan was to keep him as a backup. One or two injuries and you're right back in it. That's still very much part of the plan.

Can't blame the injury for a fall off in production, see DW4 after injury, he never looked back bc he believe in the process. Blame Korrin for allowing his mental state to suffer through his ACL injury also. It happens to athletes all around the country but, the players that has a strong drive for not allowing an injury to effect how good they're going to be after reconstructive surgery. They worked through the pain until they no longer noticed any pain. They have accepted the recovery process that they believe made them stronger and better than before. They believed in the healing process, DW4 did, and a lot of other players have and are doing well in the NFL... Everybody please keep in mind that under HC Dabo Swinney, he will only accept your best as the standard, and he will only accept his coaches and players to be All IN everyday All The Time!!!

for his recovery. And how do you have any idea what went into his recovery process? How do you know what pain he was in or is currently in when he plays? People heal differently and it's clear that he was just not the same player after the injury. I wish him luck wherever he plays next.

Kind of shi%%y on CU's part, IMO. I know I'll be in the minority here but these schools should never be able to dictate to these kids where they can or can't go. Glad he's getting his degree, he'll always be a Tiger and it's really unfortunate he was injured. If he's getting passed over, fine, let him go play wherever he wants. I just don't agree with this and never have with any school. I guess this is the ugly side of success.
Best of luck to you Korrin and thank you for being a TIGER!

Irrelevant IMO...these guys watch so much film and have so many assistants breaking things down they know how many gulps of gatorade these kids take on the side line. It's just a matter of execution. Yeah, it could help a little but hey if you're making a couple million as a DC and assistant you've got the time and resources to switch up your looks and coverages. I doubt Wiggins would be the type to be that guy to spill his guts, maybe I'm wrong. I just don't agree with telling a guy that may have just one year left, who came to your school away from his family, put in the work, is told he is no longer part of the plan, wants to play closer to home, NO you can't do that.
Like I said, I'm in the minority here. Maybe there's more to the story we're not privy to.

Hungry, I have been a dedicated hard core Clemson Tiger fan for 54 years without ever faltering or second guessing my fan hood for our Clemson Tigers. Here is what I'm getting at, I want your trust bc I have some prime ocean front property right outside of Phoenix AZ. I'm offering you this prime real estate for well under fare market price. ( I doubt Wiggins would be the type to be that guy to spill his guts) Just like I'm not the type of guy to sell you desert sand for prime ocean front property.

Would be a huge advantage if he was telling the OC of his new team what blitz they were about to run.
If he hadn't spent all spring at Clemson it would probably be a non-issue.

We could have been less than honest and kept him on our roster just in case we needed him. By being up front with him about the depth chart it gives him a chance to get more playing time elsewhere.
If we are going to do that, why would we want it to hurt us later? Letting him join another team that is facing us is bad for Clemson. And there are dozens of options still available to him.
You are being totally unfair in your criticism.

Korrin will walk out with his degree and that is awesome! I do not like hearing that he was told to move on by the coaches; it doesn't sit right with me. However, he agreed to give us a few years of his life and Clemson promised him a degree if he worked hard for it. Both ends held up to their agreement. Just doesn't feel right though.

I have zero reason to believe he was told to move on by the coaches. IF they were going to do that it certainly wouldn't have been after spending time working with him at the expense of others at spring camp. This seems pretty clear that the player didn't like the depth chart we have or just didn't want to work. Clemson has no reason to run him off - we can't even use his scholarship at this point (yes some W/O will get it this season but that isn't a player we wouldn't already have).

Guess he was told he wasn't goin to be a starter or something. Thought he would have a good year this year but oh well next man up. Best of luck to you Wiggins and is it me or is this one of the first times Dabo and staff have put restrictions on where he can go. Guess he of his talent level.

I respect the dialog between the staff and Korin about playing time. Assuming he graduates in May, there are no restrictions on where he could play in 2017.

There has to be more to this story. Even if he is getting passed on the depth chart, he is a senior, and the team is not out of scholarships.
The team cant use his scholarship for another recruit until January...Just seems like a strange move to me

Coaches decision to move lower on chart, his to transfer
Apr 28, 2017, 1:24 PM
|
|
Every spring our coaches meet with every player and gives them an honest assessment of where they are. I am assuming they told Wiggins he was not going to see much playing time. They are being honest about his opportunity here, they would gladly keep him if that is what he wants...but if he wants to play I think they told him it would have to be somewhere else.

And I'm not saying it is going to happen by any means but the coaches said he can't go anywhere who is on the 2017 schedule....
Can he go to Duke since they are not on the schedule....but may possibly be added to the schedule for the ACC Championship game?
The odds are he isn't going to Duke and the odds Clemson faces Duke in the championship game are slim but I was just curious.

Good question, could he go to ACC school not on our schedule

like Duke for instance? Since he says he want to go to school near his home in N.C. Like Pagano, I see him as being possibly an all-star whereever he goes. I hope the coaches are really being wise here?

Pure speculation on my part, but the theory there is more going on here is valid IMO. He's appealing where he can transfer to. Don't believe he'd be doing that unless he was told to leave and feels like he should be able to go wherever he wants. Also the language 'different direction' has been used in many a job termination. I dunno...like I said, pure speculation on my part. Just reading between the lines.

I don't remember any other player getting restricted by Coach Swinney as to where they were allowed to transfer to. It sounds like he either complained about his depth chart position and they were upfront with him about his chances at moving up in playing time or He has gotten into some trouble and was told that they would let him stay on the team until he graduates so he is transferring and making up a story about "a different direction".
I don't like seeing someone get restricted in where they can go play but I can see the logic behind it. Especially a 5th year guy like this that probably knows the playbook as well as the coaches and could tell the coaches of his new team what play was potentially coming based off signals, formation, etc.

His story doesn't make sense. According to the end of spring practice depth chart, he was third . Given the injury nature of college football, he could be a starter or key backups with an injury to the starter. You don't transfer because you are third in line. You work harder to get the starting job. He knows our playbook. I would never allow him to play for any ACC team.

Did Wiggins get offended that he wasn't the starter and just quit the team? The coaches are going to have to consider in the future these graduate transfer types at Clemson and maybe sign replacements for them. I hate this graduate transfer rule. It's creating a bunch of players who quit on their school for selfish reasons.

It's not a big deal until you consider the timing of these decisions. Coaches build their units in spring practice based on the returning players. Wiggins was counted on for experience. Leaving now hurts because you could have developed another player. I wish the graduate transfer rule never existed.

I hope Dabo will not let him transfer to UNC. We could meet them in the championship game.

WOW...just wow. Wiggins looked great in the spring game. He flashed several times. Why is he transferring? He could make a big difference this year.

That's a good question. It's called if I don't start I'm leaving. There is no doubt that our football recruiting has skyrocketed since Wiggins signed with us. The upperclassmen aren't as talented as the young players. It doesn't mean you quit the team especially just going through spring practice. This graduate transfer rule is ruining college sports.
