Can Clemson knock off Alabama

Dec 26, 2019, 12:43 AM

For team of the decade if they are able to lay claim to another national title in this playoff? Alabama currently has 4, 2 BCS and 2 CFP titles. Clemson would be alone at the top with 3 CFP titles in the CFP era.

Ohio St is trying to tie Alabama and Clemson with 2 CFP titles, as they won the first one.

Some interesting side caveats as the game approaches. Side question, does the 2020 season begin a new decade or does it end the current decade? I have the confuse on the start and stop of such. Though I am fairly certain that 2020 will begin a new decade. Just looking for confirmation.

No, new decade begins January 1, 2020

2019 was the 10th and final year of the past decade

Technically it’s 2021. This is because we started the calendar with year 1

But the odometer effect is strong :)

Although I believe the CFP is a better system, and therefore indicator of a ‘true(er?) national champion’, you have to acknowledge the Tide’s 4 titles, plus the fact they have been at the top for the majority of the decade.

However, should we win a third CFP, thus also ending up with the most wins in the decade, I think we would definitely share the label.

Whatever choice(s) you make makes you. Choose wisely.

And perhaps we get to test the bias of recency.

Though imo Alabama was the better team for 6 or 7 of those years and we are the best of the last 3 To 4.

Technically, 2020 is the last year of the decade, people won't look at it that way. When ESPN, Fox Sports and others consider their team of the decade, they will use 2010-2019 instead of 2011-2020.

Alabama has it in the bag for 2010-2019. 4 titles plus they were really good the other years. It's awesome to think they would have 6 but Clemson got in the way!

so it’s definitely part of this decade. The fact that the championship game is in 2020 is irrelevant.
