Need Advice - Taking my kids to their first game Saturday
Nov 10, 2021, 10:48 AM
|
|
We are taking our kids to their first ever game this Saturday and while I've been to more games than I can count, I have no idea what all we should plan for the kids to see and do.
A few questions:
1. What time does band rehearsal start on Fridays and what is required to attend? The gameday information page says kids get backstage passes at Tiger Band Kidz Club but doesn't give a whole lot of information in regards to time or if it is members only or how to be a member.
2. Are kids still allowed to slide down the hill at Lot 5 on cardboard?
3. Other than TigerWalk, what other points of interests or events do you recommend we take them to see or do?
4. Is it better to take them to see Howards Rock before or after the game? Is that even still allowed?
Thanks for any help.

This weekend, the memorial behind the east end zone would be a great place to start.

Watch the parade (band and mascots) coming into the stadium before the game. They come down Fort Hill street, turn right on Williamson road and then left on Avenue of Champions (basically the opposite route as the buses bringing the team to the top of the hill). The band and mascots interact with the kids if you can get close to the road and the kids love it. Usually about an hour before kickoff.

Parade starts immediately after the 90 min's before kickoff concert at the amphitheater. It usually lasts about 15 mins and then some time for the band to line up.

Bring cardboard. Lot 5 sliding is still a go!

Don't miss Tiger Walk across the street from Jervey. It happens about 1.5-2.0 hours before the game.

I don't know what age your kids are but if they are on the younger side:
Make sure you take them to the bathroom before the game starts because something about football games makes kids have to pee in the first 5 minutes.
Make sure you get their bellies full before the game and either plan for some concessions or have a little snack for them in the game because a full stomach and something to snack on will go a long ways toward keeping them happy and occupied while you watch.
Make sure you are settled in your seats before the band takes the field pregame. You don't want them to miss the team running down The Hill. If they are a little older they may enjoy getting there early enough to see the players warming up some too, but this is a little risky with the younger kids because you only have so much attention span to work with.
Cardboard is awesome and so is a plastic trashcan lid when it comes to sliding down the hills.
I don't think The Rock is available before games. I haven't tried to take my kids to The Rock since gathering at the Paw was taken away so I'm not sure if The Rock is available after the games now or not.
As someone else mentioned, hitting up Spill the Beans after the game would be a very nice ice cream treat.
The pregame shows on the radio also have some entertainment stuff for kids before the game. They are located on the corner of Littlejohn.
Hopefully you have made a great choice in taking them to the UCONN game for their first game. If the team plays like it should you should be nice and relaxed and able to enjoy interacting with your kids a lot more than you probably would if it was a tightly contested conference game.

I can't speak for others. Tailgate is fun. Walk around, enjoy and be offered cold beer and great food. I also like walking downtown before the game.
I most like watching the Tiger Band march the Avenue of Champions. I never miss that. That gets my heartbeat to a dangerous level. If you have not experienced that, you have missed a lot.

Band practices 4:00-6:00 on Friday. Band practice starts at 0800 on Saturday at the band practice field near Brooks. If that’s too early, join Tiger Band, the Twirlers and Dancers at the Amphitheater concert 90 minutes before kickoff (1030) for a great pep rally. Then follow behind the band for the parade to the stadium. https://www.facebook.com/cutigerband/Clemson University Tiger Band Clemson University Tiger Band, Clemson, South Carolina. 11,626 likes · 1,280 talking about this. Take them out on Bowman Field for Military Appreciation, before the game. Get there early and get in the stadium early for the festivities pre-game.
