Hard to imagine a world where Clemson and FSU stay in the ACC. The ACC will be ripe for the picken after Clemson and FSU leave.

The ACC is as ripe as it could be this very season, and honestly, I would be surprised to see last another 3-4 years if that long.
I've always found that when a person gets panicky when trying to fix something, that's when they will break it beyond repair, and that's what I see Phillip's doing right now!!!

Yea the PAC 12 couldn’t survive and the ACC can’t survive with what’s coming financially and there is plenty of blame to go around with the commissioner adding bad teams, coming out with something that locked everyone in but the stupidity of the universities helped it become reality.
If there is such a thing as a basketball conference then I could see them making that work but it would be like the Big East in football if they even decide to keep football. With the budgets of some of these football programs I would think they would shut it down and use the money for something that’s actually going to benefit them. Some of these programs will never amount to much in football.

I saw a fan tweet saying, "if your stadium doesn't hold at least 80K you would not be invited"!
Which is not true!
Oregon's Autzen Stadium only has a capacity of 54K.
This is interesting! Especially because of the part: "it will be more disruptive than what has already happend"! I mean, what could that mean? Who else that is relevant is left?
Very interesting!

I think what he is alluding to is that it will move us closer to the super-conference concept. The way things are going it looks like from a membership perspective we will really be talking about the SEC, B1G, Big 20 and then all of the rest who will be smaller and less significant/influential.

I'm thinking they would love to bolt out of the Big 10. They have sucked ever since they made that move.

I will say this and leave it at that. All the schools in the ACC that set back and basically enjoyed the revenue from Clemson & FSU while intentionally doing absolutely nothing to build a stronger FB program is about to bite them in the A$$ for years down the road. When that little bit of money they will be making from basketball and badminton will haunt them, and deservingly so!!!

I think it will be one professional football league. Players will be paid by the team, players will have a union and the league will have a commissioner. I don’t think the teams will be tied to a school or have student athletes. The schools that don’t make the top 36-48 or whatever number they choose will form a true college league without NIL or transfer portal. It will be a true college football league with teams that don’t have billions of dollars to pour into football. All of this started with the notion that players should be paid something for their ability to play football. Next we will have NIL in high school and they already have open transfer rules.

Nobody that supports Clemson would have to worry about it; "I truly do not believe"!
But, at some point, "What do you do with the teams who aren't financially able to keep up"?
Should they just stop playing football?
Or do you create another level? To me, you create another level. I see the beauty in teams having homecoming and enthusiasm for what could be for their football team every season! Just keep in the realm of possibility. I thought they should have created a championship for the Group of 5. The common backlash I hear is; "sarcasm about every team getting a trophy"! The problem with that logic; if you are a believer in the idea that only those who can generate enough of a profit are able to compete is: "It leaves no room for less financially viable teams"!
Even at schools that have not ever been relevant; football drives the bus and typically pays for the non-revenue sports(Olympic sports). This is why most G5 schools ( I imagine ) keep a football team even though their chances are basically 0% of ever competing for a championship "put up the funds to have a football team"! So, as Clemson posters, not something we have to worry about I wouldn't imagine.
But, as a fan of the sport in general, I wish there was another level that rewarded schools for competing! If the current G5 shouldn't have their own; stop North Dakoda State from dominating FCS then. Make anyone who fields a college team have to generate enough money in order to compete: "Silly right"!
The idea that there should not be another level of college football is also a silly idea in my mind. Especially with the gap only getting bigger. Folks on here are basically saying, "if you don't have money you can't compete"! This may be the truth; if you are talking about the FBS National Championship! Make another one NCAA. Some of these schools would be happy with that!

******* "I believe that the next go-around ... will be far more disruptive than anything we’re currently engaged in." ******
I interpret that to mean we won't see 2 teams leave the ACC, then a couple years later 2 more leave, then a couple of years later 2 more leave....
I would guess his "35 to 40" is a little bit low. I would think it would be closer to 48.
If it were 35 to 40, does that mean Vandy, Illinois, MS ST, Mizzou, Ark, NW, Indiana, Purdue, etc. will be left of of the "elite group"?
But, I think everybody is agreeing wsith the end result - The football teams will be a separate entity governed by completely different rules and a different organization than the current NCAA.

He said 35-40 of the top brands. I dont know if he is assuming all B1G and SEC teams make it in. If he is, thats 34 right there. Clemson, FSU, UNC, Miami? I dont think anyone from the Big 12 would be considered a top brand. ND. Or maybe 10-12 top brands from SEC and B1G. Discard the bottom feeders from each conference. The top 6 or so from the ACC. And maybe 2-3 from the Big 12. Add ND.
