My biggest confusion with Clemson offense...

... is also my biggest confusion with the FSU offense.

Then the ball is near midfield, say between the thirties, and it is 2nd and 3 or 3rd and 2 or 4th and 1, why can't you just line up and run the ball down the throat of the opponent?

Last night I watched Duke get to 3rd and two, line up and get three yards up the middle on multiple occasions. I watched FSU struggle to do to the same.

I didn't see the Miami game last night, but I have watched a considerable portion of every other game this year and I see Clemson having the same struggle.

I'm no expert. I'm just saying I don't understand.

When the ball is between the 30s, the opposition isn't playing goal line defense on 3rd and 2. They normally are in their base defense, and may have LBs crowding the line a little bit more than usual. But, dadgummit, offensive line blocking is a matter of want to. It's a matter of moving your opponent from point A to point B against his will.

I'm not expecting a hole leading to a 10 yard gain. But, why the heck can't you put a hat on a hat and keep the RB from getting hit in the backfield?

If Duke can do it, if other teams can do it, then why the heck can't Clemson and FSU do it? Why is it that stinking hard?

Rant over.

FSU will get slaughtered in the playoff. They cannot run the ball to save their life.

Because the opposing defenses know what we're going to do. They know that 80% of the time we are going up the middle. That the play calling and the Running backs have been told to run the play in the gap the play is designed for. No ad libbibg, no improvising, no using your instincts as a runner and bouncing it outside if there is no hole. It's real easy on a defensive front when they know what you're going to do and where. We are so predictable. Dabo is very, very stubborn and hard headed. He is trying to enforce his will on the opposing team. In these new times it's much more difficult than in previous times. I don't care how good a team is and how much more talent you are supposed to have than the opposing team. It does not matter anymore as much as before. If they know what you are going to do because they have watched video and a team runs the same 5 plays redundantly, it can and will be stopped. We run the simplest offense of almost any power 5 team in the country. And the most predictable.
