Not even Mr. Knickerbockers can make it in today’s college football climate.

Another business negatively impacted by e commerce, costly rents and weaker demand. Was this the last store ? The others all closed?

Yeah, the last one. They already closed Hartwell Village and the store in Greenville.

I felt like I walked into an Amazon Clemson store. I’ve never seen so much CRAP before in my life. We’re talking Kmart quality tshirts. No-name brand CRAP. Not a single Nike or Adidas or even Champion article of clothing. It was appalling. I’ve been in and out of a store so fast. Went over to dickssportinggoods and got my girl a legit Nike baseball jersey.

Yup, I think they must have been cut off from their suppliers. Seems like their selection got worse and worse.

That's sad to hear because Mr. Knickerbocker used to be packed and real busy on Saturday's during Football season from the mid 70's downtown until it moved some time in the late 2010's to the current location in the Hartwell Village.I remember when it would be so pack that you would have a hard time moving amongst the crowd. The store now where it is located is much easier to walk around in because it is not as full, especially like both Tiger Sports Shop locations.

6 years ago they were running out of product, I know , because I went in for a sweatshirt for 2 weeks consecutive and was told they had sold their allotment. Basically Academy and Dickzzz got dibs before Knickerbockers .
With the rising price of rent and product out of most normal South Carolinians price range, I’m shocked they lasted this long.
It’s sad how few family owned businesses have been able to survive the last 4 years during Covid restrictions and afterwards with inflation

This is more and more common now amongst all products where large guys basically grasp control of the supply chain pushing smaller local shops down the priority scale. That’s why the quality at knickerbockers had gone by the wayside as they shifted to lower tier suppliers.
If you’re Nike, Champion, Under Armor, etc you’d rather do business and make happy your large customers (ala Academy, ####’s, etc. ) than the Knickerbockers or like for other college towns. If there’s some leftovers at the end of the day it’s certainly available for them but not until the big fish are fed.

They didn't stay with the times. I assume everyone still want Z Cavirrici jeans, maybe Jordache Jeans, and Reebok Pumps basketball shoes. They just weren't up with the times.

But their selection was, well, they didn’t have any. Sad, but Coach Ibrahim’s old place had what I needed.

I'm sure the rent wasn't cheap at any of those newer shopping centers with national retailers they were located in like Hartwell Village, Clemson Publix shopping center (Clemson) and GreenRidge in Greenville. Maybe the leases in those first class shopping centers broke them.

But I’m still nursing a 25 year old grudge from when that ###hole David Spearman kept my security deposit for no reason. “We do that to everybody.”
I’m sure anyone who rented an apartment from him back then would be okay with it too…

Store was pretty bad for a really long time. Poor service and poor selection tend to get you pushed out of business. Sorry to see a family shop go, but this one was past due..

I'll miss the "Beat USC" stickers or whoever the Tigers were playing that home game! I bought a $10 sweatshirt the last home game. I'll miss 'em.
