Morris' uncertain future killing our recruiting on offense

Jan 10, 2013, 7:55 PM

Let's face it. This is Chad's last ride with us in 2013. Offensive skill players like Terry, Robinson and North are scared to come here because they don't know who'll be running the show in 2014 and beyond. Wish we had an "OC in waiting."

How do you know that? What schools are opening up next year that he would even be interested in? Seems like every school in the country got a new coach this season. I just don't see it. I don't see another opportunity opening up for at least 2 more years.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

who says we dont. Jeff Scott might just be...

Jan 10, 2013, 8:02 PM

the man. His daddy was a great oc at FSU.
He has been at Clemson for a while.
I think he is the only SCHS coach to win a state title in his only year as head coach. He has been learning under morris for three years. He may be ready. Recruits love him. He's a great guy and loves Clemson.
Im sure Dabo and Morris have talked this over and continue to. If Dabo cant handle losing coaches he isnt the right guy anyway. CHILL out, we are going to be fine. I hate it when people get so worried about tomorrow they cant enjoy today. Grow up!

What uncertain future? He is OC at Clemson.***

Would you rather have an OC who is not very good and

Jan 10, 2013, 7:58 PM

nobody else wants? Because that is the other option.

Of course not! It's a result of having success.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I see it the other way. Morris had several chances to leave

Jan 10, 2013, 7:58 PM

and took none of them. He's in high demand. If you played offense would you trust an OC nobody else wants?

If Morris didn't make the move this year, he won't

Jan 10, 2013, 8:02 PM

for at least 2 more years. If I have my info right, his daughter will be a junior next year then a senior the next. Most parents will not move their child before the junior year. Hopefully the wife, falls in love with the house they've had built and doesn't ever want to move, but that's too much wishful thinking.

agree with OP

Jan 10, 2013, 8:04 PM

He didnt leave bc he got no offer. Either way he wants to be a HC, and is an attractive young coach for anyone. I cant see him staying 3-4 years.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Uh...nope. We are scary deep at WR. Anybody remember

Jan 10, 2013, 8:09 PM

Germone Hopper? Sammy, Humphries, Bryant, Peake...on and on.

WR is not a problem for us. Next year or beyond. We need some help on the D-Line and in the secondary.

Re: Their identity is forged by their head coach.

Jan 10, 2013, 8:22 PM

Our identity is forged by our head coach. Dabo new what he wanted to do and went out and hired the people that could get it done. This is what most good head coaches do. Dabo said from the begining he wanted an up tempo spread Offense. Don't forget you and I had never even heard of Morris Dabo is the coach that found him and gave him a chance one year removed from high school. As a matter of fact half the people on this board thought Dabo was crazy, all I could read is go hire a proven guy. Look now at all the people worried about him leaving.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Correction: YOU had never heard of him.

Jan 10, 2013, 8:29 PM

I was a fan because I knew he was a Malzahn disciple and none of the available guys with experience were all that appealing.

If Dabo wanted an up tempo spread 'from the beginning,' then his decision to stick with Napier is pretty baffling.

Correcton I had heard of him. Dabo must have heard of him also.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Decision to stick with Napier is baffling, not really.

Jan 10, 2013, 8:42 PM [ in reply to Correction: YOU had never heard of him. ]

When Dabo hired Napier, he was a first time head coach, he hired a friend that was on the staff.

I still say Napier could have had success with this talent. Remember when Nuk was all we had while Dye(and the rest of the WR's) couldn't catch a cold or get open.Dabo then made the decision to fire Napier and hire someone else.

When Morris leaves(hopefully later than sooner), Dabo has already proven he'll do his homework to find and PAY for the OC he wants.
