Any update on him and how he's doing in preseason?

this last preseason game will be big for him as Cincy carries 8 dline typically on their game day roster and he's in a battle to be one of the last spots, otherwise he'd be inactive for the first game

Why would a first round pick be in a battle for one of those last spots? Regardless of his health, unless it is something that will keep him out for an extended period, he will be there.

Because the truth is Murphy just isn’t that great. He’s also lazy. He’s at least getting good coaching finally for once under Marion Hobby so he prob hasn’t even come close to reaching potential. He should be a better pro than he was a college player like Breeland was for us

The truth is many on Tnet dont know ball. Murphy wasnt "lazy" or bad. He just is not that lightning quick blow by the OL guy that fans want to see. Also the scheme last year was awful, looked like 1970s style defense where the DL had to slow play and basically their entire job was to keep the linebackers clean, these guys were free to be disruptors the last year BV was at Clemson and boy were they ever. The 2021 season that DL was good enough to win games inspite of DJ being inept, thats the same DL that was a non factor last year btw.

Im going to agree the overall bend but dont break philosophy was bad, the DE coach is Lamanski Hall is not bad though. Im hoping Goodwin was conservative last year by necessity.
Im disagreeing with you and others that Murphy wasnt great and that he was lazy, Dabo called him out one game and Tnet jumped to that narrative in regards to Murphys entire time at Clemson.

It’s not to make the team, it’s to be active for the first game

but Cincy has a pretty good dl with vets. They will only have 4 DEs active - if he’s not ready because he has been slowed by illness/injury or adjusting, then Sample will be active vs him game 1 more than likely.

He was a BUST , he was not dedicated. Very GOD given talent but LAZZZZZY. Proof was on the field. Wish him the best but wasn’t a Michael Dean or Christian Wilkins. All the recruiting sites talked him up though!

I read something recently where the DC or D-line coach for the Bengals indicated they needed to see more spark out of him.

I can believe it; although I have not seen it. Last year, I didn't know if he was playing not to get hurt or what? But, often against players he should dominate, he simply didn't. With his size and quickness(when he wants to) you would think more disruption. But, that is not what we got from him last year. I hope he has a long career in the NFL and makes a ton of money. I appreciate what he did do while at Clemson also. I just thought he left a lot of meat on the bone in terms of plays he could have made.

Yeah there's a reason a guy that highly rated coming out of HS and who has prototypical athletic traits for his position almost fell out of the first round.
