IMO, I believe we would be better served with one if not the best college DC'S in the country to come in and coach our players and give any help that he could give to our defensive position coaches. I understand that's just my personal opinion, but that's what I believe should happen over the next few weeks, especially before spring practice. But Dabo would have to pay one of the best DC's in country right out the box, but it would be the very best Christmas present he could give to his defensive players, and our fan base!!!

I don't know if Zimmer is the answer, but I've said from day 1 that theory from analysis is no comparison to the reality of being on the field. Our linebackers have looked woeful since Venables left, as has the overall defense. My son plays nickel/linebacker at a smaller school, but we evaluated every option based on the position coach; what is his experience to coach my son to grow and reach the next level of performance? If there is no practical experience there, the student is probably more proficient than the coach.
Look at it this way; would you trust a fighter pilot in a drone pilot's seat? Absolutely, but would you trust a drone pilot in a fighter pilot's seat? I absolutely would not because the drone pilot has no feel for all of the variables that come into play on the battle field. Updrafts, downdrafts, position of the sun, the human spatial and directional accuracy needed to make split second decisions that mean life and death. Football is not life and death, but split seconds are the difference in stopping 4th and 1, or giving up 77-yard TD runs, 3 PI penalties and filling gaps.
The defense has been sketchy and inconsistent the last two seasons, and I'm really not surprised that our recruiting isn't up to the power rangers level since Venables left, but this is where we are and we need to get back to being able to close on several TJ Parker's and Sammy Brown's rather than mostly having to take fall backs later in the recruiting window.
