Between his singing, annoying attempts at making sound effects, meaningless back and forth with Zack, constant jawing about his golf game and the Yankees, and his mind-blowing lack of knowledge about everything, I don’t understand how ANYONE could possibly enjoy listening to that mouth breather.

whole station. I'm assuming you've heard the others. Mickey's show is the most informative when it comes to recruiting and frankly thats all i really care about. All the banter and opinion and self indulgent stuff on the other shows is just run out the clock material.

Did he make any lists today? I only listen during the season and it seemed that every day he and Zach were making a "power ranking" list of the ACC , SEC, National, etc... He loves his lists. It was very annoying.

sports for the majority of the show. If I have to hear one more time about some "5 star" 17 yr old kid from California who would NEVER come to Clemson, I may pull my hair out.
Not once were the NBA playoffs and NHL mentioned. Can we not have some in-depth discussion regarding the Denver Nuggetts for the love of all that's holy.

Fans of other teams (e.g. Virginia Tech) would LOVE to have a radio station we could listen to that covers our school's sports 24/7. It's a rare and wonderful thing you guys have. You can ALWAYS find some generic sports station - on the internet if not on your radio. What you won't find is another all-Clemson-all-the-time station. Be thankful for what you've got!

The worst thing on that station used to be Walt's bridge of doom or whatever he called it. He would go on for like an hour with people calling in to answer random questions. It was as if they couldnt think of anything else to do....so they found the ultimate time waster.
On Meeeecky's show, the worst was when that old thief James Blackmon would call in and ramble on about how Cooter McGee and Willie LumpLump once snuck a pig into the game in 1933. BORING

His show isn't as bad as others. I listen on my drive to work and that's about it. Normally catch an interview with Paul Strelow about Clemson recruiting (today), baseball coach, some other coach, etc. His show has by far the most Clemson content, and incorporates other items like golf, NHL, etc. in small doses that a lot of people can relate to.
To call it deplorable is a bit much, and like others have mentioned, you can simply turn the dial. Regardless, you're helping him out here by bringing attention and clicks to his show.

All I ever heard was ads, particularly those that were disguised as a guest. I'd listen for 20 minutes on my drive to work and hear maybe - literally - 5 minutes of spots talk. At best.
Can't listen to any of them. So I don't. I find talking to myself more informative. I have much more engaging guests!

It's gone waaaaay downhill in the past year or so. He now spends too much time having his friends on as "special guests" (aka "Vegas Insider" Josh Williams) or fielding the same callers at the same time every morning (Snaphook to talk about his golf game or his wife's poor driving, William from Georgia to make a nonsensical statement about Jawja, and Chad from Columbia spouting nonsense)
I'm in the minority that likes Zach, and think he keeps Mickey more balanced - but I've stopped listening except for Paul Strelow's weekly segment.

Mackey Pyler began covering recruiting in 1986 but started his first business, Mackey's Football Recruiting Service, in Columbia, SC in 1993. For three years PFRS published monthly newsletters covering the ACC and SEC schools. During his first three years, Mackey traveled over 50,000 miles personally scouting prospects over the Southeast.
In 1996, Mackey joined Bill King of WLAC radio in Nashville, TN to form The Southeastern Recruiting Alliance. The SRA published the nation's first monthly football recruiting magazine. The SRA had a subscription base and was sold in over 60 newsstands throughout the Southeast.
In 1999, Mackey started www.mackeypyler.clownpenis.fart.com. The website covered football recruiting for the ACC and SEC schools. The website averaged over one million hits a month starting in its first month.
As part of the promotions for the publications and the website, Mackey was a guest on 10-15 sports talk radio shows per week. In 1999, he was offered his own radio show at WCCP-FM in the Upstate of South Carolina. He has hosted an talk show covering the entire sports field for the last ten years. For WCCP-FM Mackey has hosted pre and post game shows for Clemson athletics as well as a very popular Sunday Night Recruiting show that featured as many as 40 players each week live. His daily show can be heard live each weekday from 6-9 AM EST at www.wccpfm.com or 104.9 in the Upstate of South Carolina.
Mackey now has a blog on the website of www.tigernet.com, that covers Clemson athletics that averages between 10,000 and 50,000 readers per day. He has done play-by-play and color for radio and TV for college and high school athletics in North and South Carolina.

Hmmmm.
- Radio shows have advertisements. It's how they make money. WCCP has the same amount as any other station. Time'm.
- Mickey talks Clemson football/basketball/baseball more than 50% of the time. Throw in another 20% for Chicken, Dog, ACC, SEC talk. I can't see how that doesn't interest people.
- I don't care of golf talk personally but its something he knows a lot about. I'll listen until I don't care and then turn the volume down. Same with the hunting report. I can see how some outdoorsmen would enjoy it but its not my cup of tea.
- He doesn't talk about the NBA which gives him 2 gold stars in my book.
- I hate the Yankees too. But its baseball season. He talks about the Braves too.
- All radios are equipped with an O-N / O-F-F switch. Simply move it to the O-F-F position if you don't like the show.
Mickey does a nice job.

Know what you have until its gone. I get frustrated from time to time too but I think it has improved remarkably from the station it was at one time.
I used to put it down also but it really isn't that bad. There just isn't a lot of Clemson sports going in now with exams going on. Once August gets here I love the station much more.
No offense to OP. I just hope you will give it another chance.

Many years ago I stopped listening to the talk shows on the radio and since realized I haven't missed a thing. I watch very little TV and have come to the same realization. I have to confess that I spend too much time on the internet but have come to the same conclusion that many have about talk radio. some posters (including me) should spend more time in other activities.

I don't like to throw anybody under the bus, but with everything else about Clemson being first class I don't see why they continue to let WCCP be the flagship station. Mickey really is an embarrassment. He is lazy and his show prep is terrible. Generally he just seems to wing it and it shows. Many say "Just turn it off" and many of us have. Every couple of months I check to see if anything has changed and it continues to get worse. Mickey obviously has friends in high places. In any other market he would not last a week. Kelly is good, Qualk is ok, the rest other than Mickey are tolerable. If any other station put a decent host in Mickey's time slot he would be done.

I listen for 30 to 40 minutes every morning when I am commuting to work. During that time I like to hear as much about Clemson sports as possible. Not pro sports, what they ate for dinner last night, how his golf game is progressing, etc. So it does frustrate me when I listen for my whole commute and I don’t hear Clemson mentioned once. However, I do understand that sometimes when we are in-between seasons and there is no new recruiting news to discuss, then they have to find other ways to fill air time.

I listen on my hour commute to work as well. Outside of when he gets on his self-righteous highhorse about certain topics and runs it in the ground, I generally like the show. It’s obvious though he does no prep time and just wings it for 3 hours.

I just can't take the excessive ads. After 8 minutes of commericals, he will come back and do a 45 second live read. Then before the next 8 minute commercial break, there is another 45 second live read. Its way too much. I understand you got to pay the bills, but this is excessive even by radio standards.
