Clemson's Best Tight Ends
Clemson's Best Tight Ends I started watching Clemson football in 1974 and can remember all of the great players over the last forty years. I am in the process of giving my thoughts on the greatest Tigers at every position over that 40 year span. I think it is only fair for me to comment

Can't argue with that list, but I'll say that Ben Hall is

one who almost certainly would have made the list had he been properly utilized. I can't remember how many times he'd be wide open 10-30 yards downfield, not a DB or LB within 15 yards, jumping up and down screaming and waving his arms, only to have the QB run out of bounds or throw the ball away.
Another great one was John McMakin. Played in late the 60's early 70's, then played for the Steelers for several years.

1. Dwayne Allen 2. Bennie Cunningham 3. John McMakin (prolly before your time, 69-71, and 72-76 with Steelers like Bennie C. 4. Michael Palmer 5. Brandon Ford

Typing on a phone that is smarter than me... Didn't Dwight Clark play as Tight End? If so, he deserves a nod.

Absolutely agree with Cunningham as the number one TE which is saying something with the ultra talented Dwayne Allen just a little behind-also he comes from a terrific family as his mother was a wonderful guidance counselor at Seneca High School!

job filing the huge shoes of Dwayne Allen. And you have to consider how much a part of the offense he was as well.

B-B-B-Bennie had the jets! Big as an OT, fast as a WR ...

At the time he was absolutely considered the best TE in the nation and deserved it.
NO doubt in my mind that he's the best Clemson has had, although Dwayne Allen is very, very close.
Still remember Big Bennie taking it to the house from about 60 yards out up in Knoxville in a game that we had absolutely stolen from us in 1974.
