"ACC Settlement" - Keeping FSU and Clemson...?!?

Let's all hope to God this does not happen. I truly hope Neff and the FSU AD have not kowtowed to this narrative because it's simple: if we don't leave the ACC for either the SEC or Big10 we can say GOODBYE to our football future. If y'all haven't noticed, it is an SEC world now (kinda always been, but now more than ever), with the Big!0 as 1b, everyone else is an afterthought. And if it's not the money it's the pure and simple fact that the ACC has a bunch of garbage football teams and will never ever be able to compete.
Look I'm a die hard and proud Clemson alum, but if I was a kid in HS looking at schools, I'd without question want to go to an SEC or Big10 school so I could be playing in the biggest matchups each and every weekend.
Let's all hope this is hot air and that we're still planning to gtfo of the doomed ACC; else enjoy these last few years before we fall into the mediocre doldrums of being a has been in a conference that's looked upon like the AAC.

ACC then when you are both at an unknown juncture (neither party is overwhelmingly confident in their odds, or if the ACC is and they know it's still in their best interest to have to make long term peace that is good for everyone) a negotiation isn't a bad idea. There is no harm, except to the egos of those outside the process it may seem, especially on places like message boards.

It’s a real problem that a 9-3 non-champ SEC (or B1G) team would have a good chance of leapfrogging a 10-2 non champ ACC team

There isn't a real good chance. The top 5 conference champions go to the playoffs automatically, and only the top 4 conference champions get a first round bye.

He said ACC NON champ. Basically if Clemson goes undefeated but loses to Georgia and Miami. We could be leapfrogged by 9-3 Alabama with losses to Georgia, Tennessee, and LSU.
They would have wins against Oklahoma and Missouri. I think they would be in over us.

And they probably SHOULD. 9-3 in the SEC is a better accomplishment than 10-2 in the ACC.

If you can get more money...and then you must factor in a reasonable exit fee if your DID leave the ACC...it might be a sound move to ride out the life of the contract. What's the point of getting $200-300M more from another conference but having to pay out about that much as an exit fee?

That is really not even a good fantasy. Our football future is absolutely secure and staying in the ACC gives us a great chance to be in the running for a Playoff spot every year. Joining the SEC or BIG10 just gives us a chance to be a little fish in a big pond.

I'm not sure what's going to happen in the end and I've never lost a bit of sleep over it.
However, what I do anticipate is that if we do go to the Big or the SEC and we have more 9-3 seasons than 10-2 or 11-1, then there will be more griping on this board than ever before.

Look for SEC and B1G teams to pay increasingly high dollar player salaries

with ESPN, Fox Sports and NBC TV revenue. This will lure most of the country's high school and college transfer talent. The ACC, BIG 12 and other conferences will serve as minor leagues with most high performing freshmen transferring out after their freshman year of eligibility.
The ACC and BIG 12 will get one playoff slot each for each conference champion. Non-P4 will get 1-2 playoff slots. The SEC and B1G will split up the remaining 8 slots. This is where things are heading & fast. Not too great, but many seem fine with this outcome.

Could not disagree more. The ACC can and most likely WILL become one of the nation's premier and most attractive conferences in the country. How? This is all headed toward more revenue for all ACC schools- a new TV contract will solve a lot of issues and it will come- sooner than most think. Why ? The most influential forces involved know the overall health of intercollegiate athletics is dependent on strong conference affiliated universities and two super conferences will not accomplish that. The powers that be will make this happen and remember this: the ACC has some of the most financially able institutions in the country that can bridge the money gap until more equitable conditions exist. The ACC as it CURRENTLY exists is extremely successful in sports across the board and this is a most appealing prospect for a bright future. This league is anything BUT weak and was so attractive to such wealthy and prestigious institutions like the three recent additions that they leaped at the opportunity to be a part of it. Pay attention- the overall situation may evolve into a surprise ending- one that is quite beneficial to all involved.

My thoughts

Based on what I know now, which is very little, here is my speculation. Subject to change as more info becomes available.
1. This "proposal" is coming from the ACC, not from Clemson or FSU. 2. This is probably just an early step in a long path toward an agreement. Every legal "expert" I've heard said that cases like this are virtually always settled outside of court. Virtually none actually go to litigation. 3. This is the ACC's first "public" offering trying to show that they are willing to compromise. That is a good thing for FSU and Clemson. 4. This offering seems to be saying that FSU and Clemson will get more money while they are in the ACC and that they can get out of the ACC long before 2036 without having to pay 500M bucks.
I still think FSU and Clemson will be playing in the P2 in 2026 or 2027 at the latest. I keep wavering over which conference they will be in, but right now I'm leaning toward B1G.

ACC Network reported yesterday that the current proposal

was initiated by Clemson/FSU, and NOT by the conference.
I know…consider the source. I am just relaying what I saw/heard.

Clemson already signed a contract to be in the ACC for the next 10 seasons.
This is a chance to renegotiate that contract to a shorter time period.
Hopefully they can get that done.

What other choice is there? The SEC and B1G aren't going to take either anytime soon.
However, if this is a Clemson and FSU get a bigger piece of the pie it will kill the ACC in time.
