When asked his priorities over the next week to ten days, he said his top priority was the current players in the back of the room. Who had already given their all for Duke(Did mention winning a bowl game for the seniors). But then next was the recruits currently committed to Duke. However he then quickly lumped in the transfer portal guys they will go after and kind of muddied the whole response by saying you have to be flexible on all fronts. All that being said, it always seemed like his teams at Miami were very undisciplined and I don’t see that working at Duke or many places for that matter.

I think it’s a weird hire for Duke.
Maybe he was nowhere near their top choice, and they just had to settle on him.

He also mentioned in response to 2nd chance as HC after Miami. Thinks that will be a good situation in that after that first year there he was figuring it out being a HC for the first time. He went 15-8 those last two years there. How has Crytalbol done since then now with a major booster and NIL being?
Also, remember the strength and conditioning coach David Feeley that Mike Elko was always raving about was his top hire when he was hired at Duke? Well, after most assumed and early reports he was following Elko to Texas A&M, it was then reported that he was staying at Duke. Then you start hearing reports that Diaz was a top candidate at Duke. You can do the 1+1 =2 at this point was going to happen in Durhum.
There are now rumors now that Offensive Cordinator Kevin Johns might be staying at Duke also.
If he can keep the defensive coordinator or get a good one would continue that trend.
Look Duke will never be a top winner in football but can they consistently have winning seasons and win bowl games like David Cuttcliff built for a time and Elko was doing? Yes, maybe once awhile have a special season like getting to the ACC Championship under Cut. I think it's a solid hire for Duke, and it was Duke's top choice.
Diaz learned a lot at the Miami Circus and then getting to rxperienve a winning culture like Penn Stste as defensive coordinator. Good for him to get a decent 2nd chance.

but cant develop average ones, and yes, doesnt field disciplined units. That's how it was at Texas.

I have never liked the guy because there is something about him that hits me wrong. My instinct about people has never failed me either.

Back to David Feeley, he coached under Diaz at Miami. So that was the big indicatore that Diaz was going to end up at Duke when Feeley was staying. They had two other coaches at Duke on defense that coached under Diaz at Miami. They might end up staying too.
