Clemson D immeasurably better now over the 2012 and 2013 teams.

In their defense, I do think this is the best offense we've faced (other than MAYBE that FSU offense in 2013). But as was mentioned above, we are a much different team than we were in 2013. I think if we play well, they'll hit 30, if we play poorly, 50 is definitely within reach.
That said, I don't think they'll be able to stop us, so if they score 50, I fully expect we'll score 60 provided we don't suffer any key injuries (TL, ETN, or Higgins).

I think we'll come out and try to use ball control to limit possessions and wear down their defense. Overall LSU seems to have decent rushing defense stats (118ypg, 3.6ypc), but they gave up 400 on the ground to Ole Miss and 9ypc, so there has to be some weakness there that we can exploit. I have a feeling, teams would get down and then abandon the running game, but I haven't watched enough of their games to know that for sure.
If we can effectively run the ball, we should be able to keep their offense off the field and limit possessions. That said, imo we have to score early to have a chance. That approach should also open up the passing game if they drop safeties down to help with the run. My biggest concern would be if we struggle to establish the run early, we could find ourselves in a 14-21 point deficit really fast. This is not a team you want to spot an early lead.

This one ain't easy to plan.
UF (11-2) tried to play keep-away. LSU had the ball only 21:41, converted only 1 3rd Down and 0 4th Downs, won 42-28.
The OM game was interesting, LSU had the game put away when OM got those yds, were mostly by Fr QB, still won by 21 on the road. LSU Fr were getting pt while old guys were resting. When Tamu tried the same approach vs a fixed and healthy LSU D they got nowhere.
Us trying to figure out what will happen won't be accurate. w/ 2 weeks to plan and a some excellent planners, know whatever we think will be several lengths behind what those guys come up with.

It's going to be a lot of fun for sure!
Let's not try to pretend UF, A&M, and Ole Miss are anywhere close to being on the same level as what you'll see from Clemson. We are definitely better than all 3 on offense. Other than UF (who MAY at least have somewhat of an argument... see below), we are clearly better on defense also.
A&M - We dominated A&M head to head. It was early in the year and we pretty much shut down our offense and went conservative when we got the lead and saw they weren't able to move the ball on us. (24-3 before they scored with 6 seconds left on our backups).
UF - Solid defense, but UVA hung with them pretty well. I know you can't truly use transitive logic, but there's a HUGE difference between 62-17 and 36-28. See South Carolina (38-3 vs 38-27) and FSU (45-14 vs 40-17, pretty similar) also.
Ole Miss - I didn't realize most of OM yards were against the backups, but Trevor can run the ball pretty well also... just ask Ohio St.
I can't wait to see the chess match between Brent Venables and Brady/Ensminger. Both teams will get theirs (points/big plays/etc), but I think the game will ultimately come down to which defense gets the key stops.

The chess match between Dabo and Aranda will be interesting also. With these guys and 16 days to prepare I am quits sure my imagination cannot stretch that far.

Well Dabo doesn’t do any play calling, so he won’t be involved in any chess match.

Ed O won't call a play. He organizes, recruits, motivates and delegates. Oh, and mumbles/grumbles. Parents love him. Players love him. Fans love him.
Also disciplines when needed.

Re: So,Ole Miss got 600 yards in the 4th Quarter?***

It was 31-7 at half time. I don't know when LSU started playing backups on Defense.
Looks like the rushing breakdown was First half: 121 yards on 18 carries (6.72ypc) (RB Ealy had a 49 yard run in the 2nd Quarter) 3rd Quarter:180 yards on 13 carries (13.85ypc) (QB had runs of 46 for td and 60 for td) 4th Quarter:101 yards on 13 carries (7.77ypc) (QB had run for 35 for td)
John Rhys Plumblee (QB) only had 49 yards rushing in the 4th quarter, and 35 were on 1 run. He was replaced for the last 2 drives by the backup QB. He finished the game with 21 carries for 212, and Ealy had 13 carries for 141 (both over 10ypc).
This game seems to be an outlier, but there definitely seems to be some level of weakness against a running QB, and running game overall.

I don't think their defense is as bad as the stats from that game show, but I don't think it was the result of them putting in the backups. Ole Miss made it a 31-15 game with over 14 minutes left in the 3rd, and then a 34-23 game with just under 8 minutes left in the 3rd.

I agree. That's why I did the research to see if what he was saying was true. Either way, that game is an outlier, but I'm still curious if it's an outlier because that's the best running QB they faced, or if it's because they changed their D after that game to prevent it happening again.
If Ole Miss did that without much of a passing game though, it doesn't bode well for them against us unless they really did change up their defense. Might be another case of copycat plays.

If they get in the 30s they will have played a great game. If we keep them in the 20s we will have played a great game - and will be Natty champs.

I don't blame them for being confident. I grew up as a Miami Dolphin fan and remember vividly Dan Marino destroying the league with the greatest QB season of all time (until then) in 1984. He then steamrolled everyone in the playoffs leading up to a matchup with San Francisco in the Super Bowl. I was completely confident he would do it one more time and bring home the title for my Dolphins. Of course, it didn't quite work out that way and SF won easily with Marino having probably his worst game of the season. That's why they play the games and why I'll believe Burrow hangs 50 on us when I see it.

The last time i remember feeling hopeless about the defense

was the Pitt game in 2016. And then we pretty much dominated everyone after that and won the title.
Even when teams manage to move the ball well on us they still have trouble finishing drives because our RZ defense is elite. Ohio State had 500+ yards and scored 23. Bama had 500+ yards last year and scored 16 and even if they had kicked a few FGs (and actually made all of them with their unreliable kicker) instead of going for it, they still would've only scored 25.
If LSU scores 50 on us it will be an all-time great offensive performance. They will have to score a lot of long TDs.
