Remembering UGA-Clemson

I'm one of the few that attended Clemson and Georgia. (Graduated from UGA) Probably even more rare, I pull for both. Just wondered how many on this board remember all the games from 1977 through 1991. That was a great series. Brutal hitting every year. Dooley and Ford were not comfortable with each other, to say the least. Three game-winning fields (Butler once, Treadwell twice). The 1983 game ended with alternating field goal tries from midfield. Both missed, game ended in a tie. ... I get that it's a completely different day now - with better offenses - but I miss the way that series was then.

1979, 1981, 1983, 1985, 1986, 1987, and 1990 games. So I got to see 7 of 13 of the great games played during this time. UGA was our biggest rival at the time. This game was the height of college football in those days.
6 Clemson wins: 1977, 1979, 1981, 1986, 1987, and 1990
6 UGA wins: 1978, 1980, 1982, 1984, 1985, and 1991
1 tie: 1983
Did not play in 1988 or 1989

Dooley seemed like he tried to downplay how important the game was. But after Butler kicked the 60-yarder in '84, he said Clemson was Georgia's biggest rival.

Clemson as rivals--but in that time only Florida might have come close to the intensity of this game.

up in Athens in 1986. I still have the ticket stub and the program and they are framed with Treadwell pictures of him making the kick to give the Tigers the win 31-28. This was one of the most exciting games in the series and Clemson's best win in Athens. It was a great sunny day between the hedges for Tiger fans.

Bulldogs all my life.I moved to Clemson from California in '75 and it's been The Tigers ever since!! When the two get together, it is the most unusual feeling I have ever felt!!
