While we would have preferred your vote and a "Welcome to the Conference" banner, we Cal fans understand that change is difficult, and that y'all believe you deserve more than the ACC can provide. We Cal fans look forward to establishing West Coast/East Coast rivalries with your ACC brethren and to representing Cal at as many away games as frequent flier miles permit.
For some context, this existential crisis was real for a football program with a storied history (137 years, 5 nattys, 12-conf championships), and unless the school you love has been through one, you likely can’t relate. In such a predicament, you discover who your friends are and who would willingly aid in your demise. The latter group for Cal and Stanford consists of USC, UCLA, Washington, and Oregon; Florida State, at least until this week; and North Carolina women's soccer coach Anson "Die on the Vine" Dorrance.
There is a common misconception that Cal doesn't care about football, but this is far from the truth. The past decade has been characterized by underinvestment and fan apathy; however, this near-death experience has likely awoken two sleeping giants (and their fan bases) that possess the financial resources and fertile west coast recruiting opportunities to quickly ascend to the top of the ACC.
Finally, I ask that you separate Cal from Berkeley's politics, as the University has over the years and in its new athletics program rebranding campaign. From this season on, we are THE University of California, or simply "California"; "Berkeley" will no longer be associated with our athletics. We had been prohibited from using that moniker while our baby sister campus UCLA was an ally, but with the betrayal and all, it's no longer an option. The majority of Cal and Stanford alumni I know are successful conservative business pillars like many of you. Let's set aside our perceived political differences and settle them on the football field when our respective teams play. This is one Cal fan that will be rooting for the Tigers this year and would like nothing more than to see a Clemson win against USC in the playoffs.

You seem like a good dude, and welcome to Tigernet! Honest question, if Biden says virus and shut down... what are you California teams going to do? You are now dealing with people who are serious about our football, and do not appreciate or care for the government telling us what we can and cannot do!

Hindsight has shown that the draconian measures taken by California and SF Bay Area were utter and complete failures and any future actions will not be embraced by the CA public as they were during the pandemic. The negative effects are still being felt here with the demise of downtown San Francisco and the businesses that used to support a healthy downtown workforce.

The “CA public” will do as they’re told or get the he# out of CA. If that were not the case there’s no danm way LA and SF would have become the third world nightmare Escape-From-New-York zones they are now. The fact that Schiff and Pelosi keep returning to Washington says it all about the “CA public”.

Welcome to TigerNet and thanks for the information about Cal. The only thing I might quibble with in your post is the comment about Cal or Stanford might "quickly ascend to the top of the ACC."
One thing you will find familiar, severely lacking leadership at the conference office.
Just to share a bit of information about Clemson and the ACC. Clemson is a charter member of the ACC (so for 70 years). There is no love lost on the part of Tigers fans with the ACC. It goes back a long time and includes perceived slights we've had to endure from the ACC, including when it was an 8 team league with 4 of the teams located in North Carolina. They pretty much have run the conference (to a lesser extent with the more recent expansions).
To give you a bit of taste of things that rub us the wrong way, it ranges from the ACC adding an extra year to our football probation in the 1980s to constant favoritism for the NC schools, particularly UNC and Duke (especially in basketball). One year (in the 1990s) while playing basketball at UNC so many fouls were called on Clemson that most of the team fouled out and we had to end the game with only 4 Tigers playing against 5 tar holes (that's what we call the blue bellies in Chapel Hill). We have a saying in the ACC . . . ABCD . . . anybody but Carolina or Duke.
Hope you read more from you.
GO TIGERS!!

Appreciate the insight and backstory. No matter how dysfunctional you may think your conference leadership, nothing compares to the mismanagement and hubris that ultimately resulted in the demise of the Pac 12. We had our chance to add Texas and Oklahoma when Nebraska and Colorado left the big 12 but didn’t push it forward out of hubris related to academics. I’m certain going forward the administrations at Cal and Stanford will prioritize the product on the field as much as noble laureates in the cabinet.

Let me say the ACC might have had a chance to add Penn State and Notre Dame before the Lions entered the B1G but couldn't make it happen.
Also, on the point about rising to success in the ACC reminds me when Miami first joined the conference. Their fans sported t-shirts saying "We may be in your league, but you're not in ours" ... well almost 20 years later and the Hurricanes have yet to win the conference title in football. I think they have only made to the championship game 1 time. It was 2017 and the final score was Clemson 38 - Miami 3.

… we kept getting phantom fouls called against us. Even with all of those fouls called, I think we only lost by something like 7 points. Maybe it was to keep the 0-fer streak intact.
Regardless, it was obvious that “someone” in the league office didn’t want Clemson to win.

Wait till they come to your place if you want to see disrespect. They're there not only for the game but more so there to instill their political and atheist beliefs upon you. You know nothing about them at a football game firsthand. The most far left liberal bunch in existence and they will let you know it.....you backward Southerners. Not for a while. Like Jan/Feb. And even then, we might not know as I have a feeling the conference will only put together a 1-year schedule/opponent list. You would buy tickets the same as any other game.

Welcome to Tigernet. To put things into perspective, if your school wants to be relevant in football, you all need to move fast. Your football facility is not ranked in the top 25. Your fan attendance averaged a little under 39,000 per game last season. As Dabo predicted a couple of years ago, the entire structure of college football is about to exploded into two parts. Right now you all are destined for the part that is going to be left behind.
While you all have been begging to join the ACC, Clemson has been prepping to win another national title this season. This is not my goal but, one set by the seniors on the team. Sit back and watch how a real football school operates. And yes, Clemson cares about academics too. Dabo makes his players attend class and most graduate. The degrees are not some make up jock degree either. In 2018, Former Clemson player Christian Wilkins won the Campbell award, the academic Heisman.

Here’s my simple analysis. If United States had another Civil War, Clemson and Cal will be on opposite sides. Clemson has absolutely, I mean absolutely nothing in common with Cal. This is a great example of the total failure of college football.

Do you really understand that the ACC is weak enough as a whole in FB, and adding Cal and Stanford doesn't make it any stronger, and that is exactly why Clemson FSU, and UNC voted N O, y'alls FB programs does nothing to help strengthen the ACC in FB, and FB is where the big money is that we can use. We don't have the number with our alumni base as you guys do.
A weaker FB ACC does not benefit Clemson at all, and hopefully Clemson can find a reasonable exit out of the ACC before 2024.
Be assured that Clemson will leave this sissy conference as soon as the front door, side door, or the back door is left cracked open just a little bit, and its Bye Bye!!!!

We Clemson folk make it clear we do not want to remain part of this conference. I do not expect that to change. At one time we were content with being a giant in an average conference but Clemson has shown that it is well deserving of a greater portion of what it generates for this average conference. We have stood out for a decade and it is time for us to reap what we've sown.
However, you will not find a people in this world which has more respect (as fear in the Bible is understood) for God and welcoming to strangers and sojourners who venture into our world. You will soon learn what Southern and Clemson Gentleman means.
I welcome you to the heavenly people and the hell your team will face on the football field.

The new “All Coast Conference” can start peeling some of the other West Coast teams away so that you can have enough competition out there and not have to travel out East and Vice versa?
I realize it’s all about revenue generation but, if you could dream, who would be good targets?
Who would we go after that fits the ACC perceived standard?
Idk…BYU maybe? may as well grab Wash St and Ore St.
Personally? I don’t believe Clemson will ultimately remain in the ACC for the long term and this move was probably a bargaining tool to expedite that. We’ll be gone in the near future (next 2 years). And, I think it will be to the B1G

I look forward to the games as long as we are in the conference.
As far as separating Cal from politics, MOST in this group will be ok with that. The others, like the idiots who thumb-down this post, well who cares? All football programs have these brain-dead fans and we are no exception.
Fortunately, most people on TNET are knowledgeable, friendly fans who just love our program. We look forward to football chat!

Hopefully you'll receive the welcome to the conference you deserve should you ever travel to away games. Since you are well aware of the issues of uncertainty and poor foresight, you can understand the trepidation felt by many about the future of our place in the conference. The college football landscape is rapidly changing (your call on whether it's for the good or bad) and some of us, like most fan bases, are wondering where it all ends. We've witnessed a primarily basketball conference in the south expand into the northeast and wondered where we fit in as a football power. Now it would appear Mr. Greeley's words were still resonating in the ears of the powers that be as they welcomed in 3 new members. I honestly wonder if our 2 schools will ever meet. Isn't that crazy? Anyway, I look forward to more of your posts. Like all fan bases, we have a few we try to keep hidden too. Ignore them. Many hide behind the anonymity of the internet because they know in real life, they'd likely end up getting punched in the mouth lol.
