Lol, I finally ventured out to the ABC store attached to

the gas station closest to my house, to peruse bottles of adult beverages of the bourbon variety. The owner was an older Indian gentleman, and he obviously figured out his Orangeburg clientele long ago. There are NO exotic, or even borderline exotic, names on his shelf. Everything is $15-$30 bottles of normal Jack Daniels / Jim Beam bar fare. He just stared vacantly when I mentioned a Blantons, or a Knob Creek, or a Wellers, or Woodford Reserve, etc.
I finally settled on a Makers Mark, and a Bottled in Bond Evan Williams 100 proof. Do you guise consider these equally beneath you, one better than the other? In other words, which should I try first, and should I expect them to taste radically different? (Assuming I taste them at all?) Requiring minds want to know. There are no stupid opinions, only stupid people with opinions. Fire away!

Best take it easy. Liquor can't be good for you during your illness. Immune system can't be too good right now. Best take it easy 76.

I drink Maker’s quite often. It will taste slightly sweeter than the Evan Williams because it’s made with winter wheat.

When you decide you want the higher end bourbons, check out www.woodencork.com
I bought Blantons and some 10 year pappy van winkle from here. Prices were good. Order online is way easy
I like the makers mark you got. I think it goes well with an old fashion. For sippers though, I think you need something with a little rye in it to give it some spice.
Best thing to do is just try stuff. You may find out you like something better than what you expected. Don’t be fooled by cost but pay attention to mash bill and proof.
Another good one is the new terry bradshaw bourbon 102 proof and has a great flavor.
Also watch some episodes of moonshiners. Show may be fake but the education on how bourbon is made can help you understand what you are drinking.

If you purchase anything from wooden cork or any other online store, you are paying minimum double the retail for it.For example Blantons is a $59 bottle, online you’ll pay $150 to $200. Way too many wonderful Bourbons in most stores that are more enjoyable at a normal price.

high end bourbon and scotch from low, but I can tell the average and above from the lower end.
A bottle of Four Roses has a smoother and better taste to me than Jack Daniels(though Jack is fine too) though it isn't much higher in price.
I prefer some to others and dislike some higher priced bottles.
So don't worry about it too much. If you like cheaper whiskey, then good for you and your wallet.

You must realize that ABC stores cater to the majority of their clientele. He obviously does not have many people like you visit his store.

and while there are some wildly popular and rare bourbons made by Buffalo Trace, IMO, there's no better affordable option than their flagship bourbon. It's priced low enough that it won't send anyone to the poorhouse, and no matter what they usually drink, it won't disappoint. If this isn't a preferred brand by the local merchant there in Orangeburg, I'd go with the Makers Mark. Wild Turkey 101 is a decent fallback option too.

Everyone's palate is different, so how different or similar they might taste depends on the individual. I am a fan of Makers. As for Evan Williams bottled in bond, it tastes just as good to me as many bourbons in the 30ish, 40ish price range, despite its much lower cost.

Lay off the liquor till you get to feeling good for 3-4 days in a row. Then, only have 1 drink. Seriously, take care of yourself 76.
Okay, enough of the preaching...
I like Makers. Makers 46 is a daily drinker of mine. Though, I don't think you can go wrong with either bottle here. Both solid.

Most of you think I'm a sod but I had fun many years ago (2008-2014) when I shag danced most WE's..
and needed a tonic or 2 to get my feet going with my head..
so I wrote about sipping rum/cokes or bourbon/ginger ale a lot..
but truth of the matter now is I'm lucky if I drink 6 total of either one of these delicious brews a year.
Yep..a MM or MM46 is just fine for my taste buds & budget.
BURP~

Will be good with ginger ale. As the others have said, probably not good to drink with Covid but I certainly understand wanting one to send you off to bed. When you're feeling better venture to a better liquor store (Green's?) and try:
* Eagle Rare * Russell's Reserve * Basil Heyden
Even though I'm not normally a Rye fan, I also really like Bulleit Rye.

the liquor untapped until I feel better. I certainly don't want to do ANYTHING that would stretch this out any more than it already is.
On a positive note, I just had about a three hour nap! Had a Halls lozenge in my mouth when I laid down, and is the first time in 5+ days that my throat has not screamed at me while trying to sleep. I may survive this thing yet. (Yes, I had done the Halls thing before, and it didn't help. So, maybe I am suddenly coming out of it.)
