FB recruiting, currently ranked 25th according to one site.

Dec 10, 2013, 8:00 AM

Usually we're much higher at this point. FSU, Auburn, UGA and Miami are in the top 10. Seems we're not doing as well this year. {SCU is currently 41st.}

Any insight as to why?

a certain poster comes to mind...

when a recruit commits to Clemson automatic one * drop. If a recruit goes to a sec school automatic increase in * rating. Plus we quit on the money hungry 5* since they have to go to the anyone can get in , money cheating sec conference. If clowney can get in, anyone can.

Smaller class this year due to fewer available spots.

Next year will be a big year for recruiting. This year will be a smaller class because we have fewer seniors.

Which site might that be??? Rankings, schmankings.

Dec 10, 2013, 8:33 AM

If it's true one site puts us at 25th, Rivals puts us at 12th. So how meaningful and accurate can the "rankings" be if they are really that different overall?

Big factors: How many positions and which positions you are trying to fill. Wait until the season is over before you get too worried. We still have Raekwon McMillan as a strong get, and an outside chance on Trevion Thompson, for example.

My view is no rankings are that accurate or precise. After all, in recent history for us Nuk, Ellington, and Dwayne Allen were all 5 star performers in college that didn't get any higher than 4 star ratings from the 'experts' ranking high school kids.

Rivals shows #12 ranking. What site are you referring?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Link? we're top 15 on every major recruiting site I've seen.

Dec 10, 2013, 8:49 AM

247, Rivals, ESPN, Scout (although scout's CEO is from oregon or washington and has a blatantly obvious agenda of ranking, across the board, west coast players higher than most other site's, while east coast players get the shaft compared to the other 3 expert sites)

I'm pretty sure Scout has us ranked low - 25th maybe

Dec 10, 2013, 9:17 AM

But Scout is often trusted less than Rivals and ESPN. Their analysis is usually pretty shallow to boot. Just the fact that of three different ratings we are 12, 14, and 25 tells me all I need to know. It isn't as much about precision as it is about preferences and bias. For example, some don't give Deshaun Watson top ranking, while others put him at the very top. It all adds up to nothing once players get under the control of their NCAA coaches.

Scout has Deshaun Watson as the 101 ranked player overall and 5th best QB. Not much cred there when every other site had him as a top 10 player or higher overall.

Like others have said , LINK ?

Dec 10, 2013, 9:08 AM

Every site has us rated a lot higher than that,. Reading FGF rankings again. Always funny when someone starts a thread (WITHOUT A LINK) then disappears, TROLLING MUCH ?

http://www.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=9&c=14&yr=2014 but like others have said their rankings are a joke Milan Richard who is a top 3 TE at rivals and espn is the #22 TE on scout. Artavis Scott is a top 10 WR on every other site and Scout ranks him as the #25 WR. The list goes on, also the fact they have NC Stat higher is also a complete joke.

Brad Brownell: more losses than any other coach in school history.

I couldn't care less. I don't care if we are 120th in recruiting, it means about as much as us declaring ourselves national champions in April.

It comes down to who wants to perform on the field and who will fight their ### of to get playing time. Grady Jarrett, Stanton Seckinger, Adam Humphries, Ryan Norton, Vic Beasley, Spencer Shuey, etc. were all fairly lightly recruited guys and they are all key contributors.

There are so many 4 and 5 stars that go to the big schools and get buried on the depth chart, next thing you know their 5 years of eligibility is over and they haven't played much outside of some special teams snaps. I would love to finish first in recruiting so we can have something else to brag about, but when it comes down to it it really doesn't matter all that much.
