Let me solve the puzzling mystery for the usc jr. trolls who

have never played, nor understand the game of football... as to why Clemson didn't sling the ball as far as they could down field the entire night to sammy and bryant.
You played 2 deep safeties lined up about 20 yards down field at the snap the entire night. You did this so our ultra talented receivers wouldn't get past your defense. It was a way of playing not to lose, instead of playing aggressively to win the game.
You simply challenged us to run the ball, an area in which we dominated you for the majority of the game. The 2 muffed punts killed us. We still refused to play into your passive defensive scheme, though, and that's why you didn't see us going deep very often. Everyone else we played had the balls to blitz. You.... did not. You played scared.
Mystery solved.

Sounds like a good plan. That and not turning the ball over wins a lot of ballgames. I bitched all year about Conner Shaw not making plays like Manzel and Boyd. In the end he only threw 1 pick all year because he is careful with the football. And doing so won 17 home games in a row.
Sometimes the flash works, sometimes the dull works.

Shaw is the biggest paradox I've ever seen out of a QB. He can't throw very far, my mother has a more accurate arm than he does, he's usually encumbered by some injury, and he is one of the slowest guys on the field. Yet he's got the brains of an elite QB and the instinct of one which lets him make the most out of his abilities and the offense so he doesn't lose often. Its frustrating as ####, but I have to give Slurrier credit for coaching and developing Shaw to the level that he is at now.

Actually, he is pretty accurate, just not as accurate on the deep ball. He throws that ball on a line too much.
To me that is what Boyd is so good at. He is as accurate with the deep ball as any QB I have ever seen.
Boyd and Shaw have almost polar opposite strengths and weaknesses. Boyd accurate with the deep ball and a power runner who can take a pounding. Shaw more accurate with the short and intermediate passes and a quick runner not so powerful and seems to get hurt easily.
But as the original poster posted, Our defense was designed to take away the strength of Boyd.

SC played 2 Deep S's b/c Watkins is a burner, also they've had success rushing just 4 guys for years. It's what they've been doing the past several years, and they keep doing it b/c it works. So why is Chad doing the same thing as well, where are the short dumpoff passes and possession receptions? B/c what's been going on the past few years offensively isn't working.
For Pete's sake, Sammy threw more INT's than received TD's in his 3 games against them, Chad's plan(s) was/were bad.

away as a result of your press covering our guys (and hanging 2 safeties 25 yards deep in case we did have a deep ball in the works)bc your and our staff both knew we'd burn whoever comes up to press.
Your scheme was carbon copy of FSUs scheme this year, who play 2 safeties deep the entire night and challenged us to run the ball.
Go back and watch the tapes... and good lord I cannot wait until our more talented, physical RBs come of their redshirt's to join Brooks in absolutely devouring a four man rush look (minus clownster) showing 2 high safeties. We will eat your asss alive and force you out of your coward 2 high look.
FSU has the horses in their front 7 to stay in that look (just as you have the past four years). Unfortunately for usc jr., you'll have to think up a new scheme that fits to the skill set of your players vs. ours... and we all know thinking is not your forte. When your D coordinator has to look to teams with less talent than us for gameplans, you're clearly fu@ked.

"staff both knew we'd burn whoever comes up to press."
So now we're dealing in hypothetical?
"Your scheme was carbon copy of FSUs scheme this year, who play 2 safeties deep the entire night and challenged us to run the ball."
Was their scheme a carbon copy of FSU's or was FSU's a carbon copy of what they had been doing the past several years?
"When your D coordinator has to look to teams with less talent than us for gameplans, you're clearly fu@ked."
Seriously, isn't that what Clemson did this year to prep for the UGA game? They looked at USC's tapes against them in 2012.

Several times. Kaiwan Lewis got a sack on one. It's not called playing scared, it's called playing to win. Idk exactly what else you would expect them to do?? Blitz non stop and play tight on the line to give you an advantage? That isn't smart.

6 turnovers. top 8 team? How the hell were we tied in the 4th with such a juggernaut? Never again will u have the luxury of a superior clemson team muffing two punts to keep a usc jr team (with the least impressive longest home win streak in the nation) tied with us in the 4th. Enjoy now ... or UP the roids for all of your 1&2 star players. Only chance you'll have from here on out to be at us. What was the excuse last year. You had the same team basically, and you were ranked high, and fired up at home. Same result. I'll give you an advantage next year due to the game being in DV. Other than that, none of us have any idea how each team will be.

HA HA HA. This guy^^^
Yaaa, un, South Carolina's db's played pretty good d on your receivers that night. Two deep safeties only work when the coverage at the line of scrimmage is solid. South Carolina's corners were physical at the point of attack and did a good job interrupting routes. And to be honest with you, a lot of it has to do with your golden boy Tajh Boyd.
Dude is terrible with his progressions. Once that first option is gone, he has a lot of trouble finding the next open man. You don't think other teams have played two deep safeties against Clemson this season? You're ridiculously stupid. THe problem was South Carolina's safeties and db's were better than any team Clemson had played this season, other than Florida State. And they were able to get pressure with four d-lineman. Ya, Clemson rant he ball ok, but South Carolina did a good job forcing some punts, and completely keeping Clemson out of rhythm.
Clemson looked like Clemson on three drives that game, two resulted in a TD one a field goal. The bottom line is South Carolina did a good job keeping Clemson off balance for most of the game. Ya, Clemson turned the ball over 6 times, but those late interceptions were just icing on the cake, the game was pretty much well in hand at that point. Those safeties you were talking about did a great job playing the double-pass, in fact it was almost as if they were in the huddle during the play call.
Again I keep seeing stuff about the muffed punts. One of them, definitely self inflicted. The second one, I keep hearing fumble, but no one is giving the defender credit for stripping that football, same with the Tajh Boyd Strip. Its always "Clemson made the mistake". No, South Carolina forced three of those mistakes. Just take the loss and move on.

Let me explain something to you.
Dec 6, 2013, 12:08 PM
|
|
For the great job you are claiming Scar did on defense, Clemson averaged over 6 yards per play on offense. That's not only counting 3 drives but the entire game. Also regardless of a player trying to strip the ball it is always a mistake on offense to fumble. If you carry the ball the way you are supposed to then it will not get taken away from you. You are right about other teams playing two deep safeties earlier this season. Clemson abused those teams. Clemson also abused Scar when they actually had the ball to do it. You can't discount 4th quarter turnovers as if they didn't matter to the outcome of the game. Scar scored 21 points off of turnovers and only won by 14. It seems turnovers is the story and not whatever nonsense you are trying to claim about how great your team played.

play football games.....
Hint...it isn't YMCA rec soccer and it involves winning the game.
Perhaps this post explains why the Clemson coaching staff keeps getting landrushed by SC....
you know they didn't want to "play scared" by changing their defense to actually stop Conner Shaw from running wild...that would have not been "manly enough" for some posters....
It would be interesting to hear from some geniuses why would any opposing team would want to run the defense that their opponents want them to run? Are these people YMCA soccer coaches where you don't keep score?
Surprisely, Lorenzo Ward actually let slip in the post-game interviews why SC has no worries when they play Clemson's "ultra-talented" offense and none of the Clemson journalists actually picked up on it as they were too busy looking for ways to spin the latest loss as sure-fire "victory".

Didn't blitz???? 2 of the 5 sacks were by LB's. Seems to me it took your strength away from you. Much preferred to have CU run the ball and eat up clock to limit possessions. Seems pretty genius to me, because it's worked more than once!

And evidently you still don't know what a muffed punt is! He muffed one (which means he dropped it while trying to field it) and had the other knocked loose during the return.... and you say you know football. that's funny!

We still refused to play into your passive defensive scheme, though, and that's why you didn't see us going deep very often.
Everyone else we played had the balls to blitz. You.... did not. You played scared.
Mystery solved.
Yep, you sure fooled the Gamecocks! They're thinking they won!
Just how many sacks did USC have (without blitzing)?

And the team playing that defense is called the winner. The loser of that game are still whining......the new normal is tough to grasp I guess. (See Florida/Spurrier versus Georgia/many coache).

Since you claim to be addressing people who "have never played, nor understand the game of football," let me explain something.
Teams choose a defensive alignment to take away or minimize an offense's best weapons. This falls under the heading of "intelligent strategy." Good coaches do not base defensive (or offensive) decisions based on someone else's ideas of "playing aggressively" or having "balls to blitz." They're actually trying to -- oh, what's the term I'm looking for ? -- win the football game.
Which South Carolina did. I suspect Lorenzo Ward was pretty pleased that Brison Williams was aligned far enough from the line of scrimmage to make the play on Sammy Watkins' pass.

If they challenged us to run, and we did and did it well

then why did we only do it around 15 times this game? Should have keep running it til they stopped us. Coaching error.
Also, there was only one muffed punt I saw that was early in the game. The 2nd Adam Humphries turnover was a punt return that was fumbled.

His "mother has a more accurate arm than Shaw," yet Shaw has a higher career completion percentage than Boyd. Plus Shaw has a 22:1 TD to INT ratio this year. Loving the "wisdom" in this thread.

I find your analysis comical to say the least. Trust me, I played lots of football, and am very knowledgeable about the game. SC had a perfect game plan. Take away the big play, and Clemson can't beat you. Your team wasn't playing against MD or Wake where they could expect 3 long plays for TD's automatically.
Using your logic, your coaches thought they would stack the line of scrimmage and take Davis away from us. They were sure they would make Shaw beat them. So were they playing scared? They thought they had a good game plan. Actually, they did stop Davis so that part of the plan worked. Problem is, they never adjusted their plan. SC did.
But hey, your analysis made for a good laugh. You crack me up...."they played a two deep safety to take away our big play receivers so they were playing scared." Bwahahahahahahaha

If all you say is true (scared defense hanging back) how does Clowney have the all time sack record in DV?
We don;t want them to come over here posting the factsa bout the game and Tajh's stats the last few years and for that matter the stats for the last 5 years??
Why are you guys begging to get slammed and look silly?
Enjoy the opportunity to go beat Bama and shut them up with a win over the all mighty SEC giant
