Thinking he is a Rex Ryan protege also. He would probably be my #1. Played college ball and pro ball.

I don't like that he is a 3/4 guy. Need 4 down lineman in my opinion.

I tend to agree with you . However, if we can put 4 big, fast guys behind the 3 down linemen...guys strong enough to hold their own in the gaps against the offensive lineman, the 3/4 can offer some versatility that a 4/3 cannot. Think Simmons and Trotter kind of guys. He**, even Boulware could be disruptive coming into the mix from a stand-up position. I'm just thinking they get a better look at the attack than the guys with their hands on the ground. I may not be missing something (often do) but, again, a lot depends on the personnel and if the LB coach knows the 3/4 well. I'm thinking this might be the place to put Alexander.

I agree with you. I also think this will be good for staying healthy but also just because he is a 3/4 guy doesn’t mean we can’t have a game plan or packages consisting of 4/3 ya know?

I'm a 4-3 guy myself but if you have the right people the 3-4 can be a better base IMOA. It gives you more versatility with thd ability to disguise stunts and blitz packages. But it is tough to get the ideal guys to be make it very effective and optimize the advantages.

As of now, I don't think we have the ideal depth. I think Capehart could be effective as a NT, PWoo at DT, the guy from Iowa((name escapes me at the moment) on the end. Make Parker an OLB. If we can hold the line with just 3, Parker could come free a lot, kind like Grady Jarrett and Vic Beasley. Couple that with Sammy being able to blow through gaps on the inside. I don't really know where J Alexander would be. Do you put him inside or the other OLB?

In the secondary if we did go 3-4, I think you can come up with some creative blitzes. Give Terrell the opportunity to mimic his brother. I think we have the flexibility to bring blitzes from everywhere. Our corners can handle most guys in man, which could really give us the ability to bring safety blitzes.

I think going 3-4 could be beneficial. With Parker, you can easily switch to a 4-3 look. I think the Adams and Watford could immediately give us depth.

I'm exited for the 2025 season and I truly believe that we could really .are some noise. With a dynamic hire for DC, we have a good shot to get back to the playoff and could potentially win it all. I don't think we were that far off being a stellar team this year.

With a few tweaks, 2025 could be the year of the Tiger.

I could go on but I'll spare you any more of my rambling. Can't help it though. I've got time on my hands and I lo e talking Clemson FB.

Our roster is built for 4 down linemen. That's what we recruit to

My only concern is if 3/4 vs 4/3 would really affect recruiting.

1. I would like a DC that learns his talent, looks at opponents, reviews the game situation, then call formations that effectively stop and opponent and wins games!

2. 3/4,4/3,4/2, 5/1….i don’t care as long as they achieve #1.

I hope they are smarter and more skilled than we are.

3-4 works with big guys up front that do their jobs. 3-4 isn't about flash it is about doing your job and keeping the linebackers clean to scrape and make tackles. 4-3 just makes it a little easier. but for a 3-4 you need a massive man in the middle that his sole job is to eat up blocks so everyone else can EAT. Do we have a body on campus that can fill that role and isn't selfish because that DT wont see numbers but the effect of them doing their job will be monumentally important. that's why everyone loves that 4-3 3-4 is actually schematically better to fit runs. but I dont get paid for that so.. lol

All excellent points! I guess one could assume that a DC will be hired because he has been successful in his prior job. Therefore, to your point about recruiting, the recruiting model may undergo some change if he installs some new wrinkles...that, if successful, will lead to getting good players that can play in said system. Additionally, it is not unusual to switch defensive looks during a game. I think that is one of the things we did not see enough with coach Goodwin... never switched up and confused the opposing offense.

Ah, humility and reality! I also have no doubt that whoever comes in will know far more than I, but it is fun to coach from a computer, right!?

After seeing Payton screaming at his current DC, Leonhard may get a chance at a promotion in Denver.
