LED bulbs

How many of you have already replaced your "20 year life" LED bulbs after only a few years? I know none of us really thought they would last that long, but it would seem reasonable that maybe half the time they said would be a target...I think I would have to say mine are lasting about 3-5 years! The ones on the outside last less, while the ones on the inside, out of the weather, last a little longer, maybe 7 years.
Is this kind of what y'all are seeing?

Yes, my outdoor bulbs are not as old. Maybe 4/5 yrs old. I like the LED bulbs better than compact fluorescent and I line not having the heat given off by an incandescent bulb.

I have been using them for years and got 3 to 5 years out of most brands so I said no use to buy the expensive name brands. I bought the Wal-Mart Great Value LED bulbs and they have lasted longer than the name brands for about half the cost. As it goes, the next time I replace one, the new one may only last a year. But for now a bulb is at 5+ years in the light that stays on about 16 hours per day.

The Walmart bulbs aren't cheap. Not much is these days at Walmart. I used to get a pack of AC filters for 3 bucks and now they are double. I miss when you could buy a pack of bulbs for a buck or two. Another thing our guv-mint screwed us on.

and, as is generally the case, some perform better than others. I have some that have been going strong for nearly five years, but I've had to replace some others more frequently. Overall, I am happy with them but never really thought the 20-year life span was realistic expectation.

We spent $10K replacing bulbs at the office, only to find they didn't work

with the emergency light system. Then, 25% of them had to be replaced in the first year.
To me, it's a lot like the new-ish gas can with the valve on the nozzle. You spill far more gas than you would have with the old style cans.

How long per day are those lights on? They lifetime rating is typically based on being on 3 hours per day. But it's not uncommon for some lights to be on 8, 12 or even more hours per day.

I like sitting in the dark when there is a storm and it's lightening outside but by choice and not because the power is out. Uggh!

Use used up 20 years in 3. You are not supposed to leave them on all the time.

The last carton of incandescent bulbs I bought several years ago all burned out within weeks. So I'd say 3-5 years still beats 3-5 weeks, even if they don't quite live up to the hype.
