Leadership Hires The Best People
Dec 10, 2021, 5:51 PM
|

Period.
The most successful leaders hire the best people. You don't put "limitations" on hiring process to include only external or internal. The best people are the best....period.
Why would anyone suggest we need to hire an internal person only? Or external only? Or one internal and one external?
Why not expect to hire the best? Whatever and wherever that is. That is what I expect in my coach.
Looking forward to a new chapter for Clemson football. I am #AllIn and believe Dabo will hire the best people.
Period.

Exactly. And none of us can define what "the best" means to "the leader." We have our own measuring sticks, but then again, none of us have led a team to 6 playoff appearances, 4 national championship appearances, and won 2 national titles.
We just THINK we know what "the best" is.

You sir make way too much sense for the average TigerNet experts. I am going to trust Dabo until I have a solid reason not to. BTW a 9 and 3 season and possibly a 10th win coming is not reason enough for me to start doubting CDS. I will say that I am ready to hear Dabo’s plans on staff changes, but we have to remember losing your AD may have an impact on hirings and promotions.

There is one person accountable to the hires

And that is Dabo Swinney.
Whatever decision he makes, he is going to (in his mind) hire the best people.
If he is right, we will look back and think he was smarter than "Clemson Fan".
If he is wrong, he is accountable.
"Clemson Fan" never has been, nor will be, accountable.

why wouldn't he? He wants to instill the same culture, just like Brent does.
With Tony, this is where I'd have concerns about losing Reed or Bates as DC. Either would be a big loss. But if either leaves it would be a promotion. Personally, I'd be excited to see a guy like DeAndre McDaniel moved on to staff here, especially if Reed leaves. I'm not saying he will, but it's a possibility. Tony could take DMac. He'll take some for sure. He'd be foolish not to

The best foreman I ever had were the ones I trained. Not interviewing other foreman did not mean I did not consider them. I had to manage them and to do that needed to know their exact character, abilities and limitations. I had to know what motivated them and what it would take for them to reach their goals.

and/or spoken to external candidates? These past two week and past years?
Or that he has interviewed internal candidates?
People who hire people are in constant and never-ending conversations and evaluations of people they would like to hire...both inside and outside.
That is the problem...too many people are judging Dabo on what he has or has not done with little to no knowledge of what he has actually done or not done.
He is the Head Coach. He will hire who he thinks is best. And he is accountable for it.
Everything else is arm-chair QB'ing....something we seem very good at nowadays.

profession if he's interviewed external candidates and no one has reported it? Am I trusting journalism too much? I mean David Hood was hiding in Brent's bushes to scoop Oklahoma talking to him. Plus permission generally is asked of the schools employing those currently working elsewhere, and that always leaks.
Dead silent.
So you tell me....has he interviewed externally or hasn't he?

(I copy and pasted it below and stand behind it 100%. I hope you read it carefully. Your problem is you may be taking a press conference comment and superimposing the reality of what Dabo did or did not do for the past 7+ years in analyzing his own coaches, talking to other coaches, and talking to other coaches of coaches.
Then again, the hires will either be great or terrible as noted below, and you will be ready to bring your posts back up if they are the latter to prove you are an Internet Nostradamus. I will take the approach of believing in our head coach now, and if he is wrong holding him accountable for it later. You take the approach of holding him negatively accountable before one down of football has been played with these coaches...and that is sad IMO)

At his word on the process. It’s a lot easier to be the “best” when the sample size is the coaches already on the team. Also like I said, Dabo does place familiarity and comfort somewhere near the top of his criteria list for “best”. At some point you’ve gotta at admit that Dabo’s hiring criteria are far different than how “best” is usually defined. That’s his prerogative though and I appreciate him being committed to his process.
I’m not saying it won’t work out….I hope it does. Either way though, the next couple seasons are going to be must-see TV.

I can't imagine why anyone is stressing. We have only a superficial inkling of the relationships between Dabo and those who are gone. I don't believe anyone left without giving their replacement great consideration. It's not as if Dabo is a farmer and his boys are leaving for the big city to become writers or work for ESPiN.

I agree with the internal vs external part. I don't agree with always trying to hire "the best". Many times "the best" come with long term downsides. You might hire someone you judge to be 100 on performance scale, but you know you will only have him two years. Would you rather have him than a 94 that will be with you 5 plus years?

Everyone seems to forget Dabo has said over and over this is Clemson’s offense. So I understand promoting from within. The defense I hope for a big name hired. If not it will be a long season next year.
