It depends on what your goals / vision are for Clemson the next 4-5 years.
If you want to continue playing on the national stage for National Championships, then, this class didn't cut it.
If you want to be an upper echelon ACC team, then this class is right on target.
Some argue this class isnt done ... well, its done for 4 and 5 star players. Clemson is way too late to the party on these highly rated prospects, and Clemson's NIL program is where ? Where is it ?
The 2022 class will be finished with low 3 star and 2 star players (insert Renfrow reference here - exception, not the rule) ... and there will be a lot of walk-on scholarships handed out.
Lawson is the first clue ... way undersized DE ... he will need to live in the weight room for 2 years before ever sniffing the field.
It looks like Dabo was asleep at the wheel this year. Not sure what happened but let's remember he makes 8 million a year not to nap on recruiting.
South Carolina battles East Carolina and Toledo for recruits, not Clemson.

Impossible to rank/grade this class this early. In a year or two we will know how good or bad it was. I’m kind of glad we have this Dude named Dabo working to develop this next group of champions.

Recall, that was the start of turning the corner on recruits

So the cupboard was bear to start with. That is not the case with this class. We have some really good talent already here and if we augment this class with some solid 3s that have potential to blossom and some transfer portal guys and have a really good year with our new coordinators, the recruiting class next year will be large and plentiful.
It will take two years like this past one to really cause concern. Ideally we shouldn’t have had this one this year, but no need to cry over spilled milk. It is what it is and the worst part is behind us now. Once this group of coaches settle in and demonstrate we ain’t going nowhere but up, the next time a coach leaves the uncertainty and consternation will be less and less. Kind of like what happens at Bama now. Saban has proven that changes like this are not always a bad thing. It is about the program more than the specific coaches. If a coach isn’t getting it done, Dabo will fix it. This current situation and change can go a long way to solidifying that the overall program under Dabo is bigger than a coach or two.

The sudden departure of coach V hurt this years recruiting class nothing more.
Dabo has done an heck of a job of recruiting the current star players on his roster and that's a big F'king deal!

Clemson was hurt by the dismal season-long showing of the offense in most of the games this year... without the corrections expected from Coach Swinney. His refusal to speak honestly about the team's efficiency after the games caused many to lose their confidence in his ability to turn the team around this year and probably caused some recruits to wonder themselves about 2022. Recruiting was bound to be hurt by the bad team performance AND the departure of Clemson's elite defensive coach. Both should be listed...

If we are trying to remain at the elite table, we need to compare this class with the Bamas, OSUs, and UGAs of the world, and by that standard, we are coming up woefully short.

Extenuating circumstances hurt recruiting this year. Those will not be the same next year. Watch and see.

Remain at the elite table?

I’m sorry but we already left the elite table.
Our goal is to get back there.
To do that, we must maintain our strong defense and figure out a way to improve our offense considerably. That means much better line play, get some game changers at receiver, and find a quarterback that is elite. That means not just beating ACC teams that are way overmatched from a talent perspective, but also having the talent and coaching on par with elite teams such as Alabama.
If we are being honest with ourselves, we haven’t had that in several years.

I guess out of respect for your stature on this board you haven’t been td’d and cooted todeath by this post. Kinda like MJ not getting called for fouls. Your post is dead right on point.

Dabo couldn't help he lost 3-4*'s and a 5* when Venables took the Oklahoma job. That's a big setback that couldn't be helped.

Perhaps you should just go elsewhere and pull for a team! Your pessimistic attitude is rather off putting! Please go away!

Campbell was 6'4 225 lbs
They are both RS their freshman year. Both need to get up to 255-260.
Other than the stars, what's the major difference? Both developmental. And maybe a positive, the 3 star local kid may be more likely to hang around and develop

Not Ferrell, or Beasley, or Adams, or Bryant, or off this years rotation Mascoll or Henry.
We've always targeted guys who need to fill out who are athletic, even on the inside. If you're going to compare everyone we recruit to a Murphy, Breese, Wilkins or Lawrence, well, most of the guys we have recruited fall well short of that.
Campbell is higher rated, and may indeed become a stud. But he's 2-3 years from playing, just like Lawson

I seem to remember an experiment with an athlete out of high school named Vic Beasley. Hoping one of these guys can turn into that.

This could have likely been avoided if we sent more offers. I don't think we even sent out half the offers of Bama, UGA, and OSU.

We don't need Lawson for a couple of years at the earliest anyway. All we have to do is have a good class next year. It's not like we will be thin at DE. This class is small, but it isn't something to complain about under the circumstances. 2021 was a stacked class and those guys are still waiting their turns. This 2022 class had Good OL, good WR's, good QB, good db's, a good kicker. We missed at LB and DT and we are not done. Next years class will be a good one again. The team is really young and we really didn't have many needs. I think getting what we got was solid under the circumstances. It's small, but quality.

Oh there are allot of exceptions outside of Hunter over the years, but yes the general premise is correct.
The coaching turnover (BV) really hurt us.
