Killer Instinct...

Curt Gignetti of Indiana. The Hoosiers were leading Purdue 45-0 going into the fourth quarter yesterday. Did coach call off the dogs and put in his second and third stringers? The starting qb, Rourke, played the entire 60 minutes and threw 6 touch down passes. Dabo certainly would have put in Vizzina, who would have handed the ball off ten times and maybe thrown one pass. The Hoosier defense went on to shut out pathetic Purdue, 66-0. Dabo would have put in defensive backups, who would have been torched for 21 points.

Dabo's entire approach is soft, from recruiting, to zero portal use, to hiring friends or guys who have little experience, to constantly saying nice things about the opposition, even when his team gets its ash kicked. The killer quality he seemed to have possessed a few years ago is gone. The team most certainly reflects this, as it cannot tackle, cannot break tackles, cannot block for the kicker, cannot punt effectively, and cannot make smart plays when the contest is on the line.

The coaching is weak also, as the offense goes into its customary shell in a tight game against good teams. Yesterday's three and outs a case in point. The offense taking its sweet time in running plays against Louisville, or the puny performance against Georgia. Tech hung 42 against the Dawgs. Granted they played a gazillion ots. But the Yellow Jackets did put up 27 in regulation. What did we get against Georgia? A field goal.

I'm hoping the Clemson administration begins to start whispering things in Dabo's ears, suggesting he become a bit more serious about getting back to where he used to be.

I hope there aren't a lot of replies agreeing with you because if so there are a lot of liars on this board

I remember calling this out earlier in the season when Dabo was pulling the first string at halftime and 99% of this board disagreed with me and agreed with Dabo's approach to get the young guys playing time

but its been a statement for me to express how our team looks like pudgy children that rather dance and play and stay sheltered in safe space rather than play like violent gladiators fighting for life and death

I like to see the young guys get playing time, but how about getting a few in WITH the regulars throughout the game, and not just emptying the bench in the fourth quarter. In other words, give them meaningful snaps, when the game is still on, not when it's 45-0, Clemson. Other teams get different players in and out all the time.

Yesterday a case in point. Why not give a less than 100% Mafah some rest throughout the game and give Haynes and Adams more time? Does Dabo not trust these guys? It was Mafah, the experienced player, who was involved in both turnovers.

An injury is always one play away...and to put someone in that does not know what to do is insane. Got to get these starters and back-ups developed and ready

Dabo did have a hunger and drive and a competent coaching staff to recruit 4 and 5 star talent, develop that talent and get us to the top. He led those teams to 2 national championships and conference dominance for years. I believe that he thinks that he’s done “his part” for Clemson and now he should be allowed to run the program and coach as he sees fit.

Once those coaches left, Venables, Scott, Elliot, Brooks, Hobby, etc., Dabo saw his opportunity to bring in his people, his friends that needed a good job, family that could be taken care of, and run the program as “Clemson Family”, wholesome, fun, shaping boys into productive men.
Thats great and just gravy when you’re doing what you’re paid to do. Win. And fans pay a lot of money to come see good games where Clemson wins.

But, when the people you hire are inexperienced, never coached a Div 1 team, and you’re unwilling or unable to adapt to the new landscape of college football, and you feel the need to micro-manage, the foundation begins to crack.

Clemson Football has no killer instinct now because of what’s been taking place over the past 5 years. Dabo has become content. He now sees his mission as running a New Spring Football Camp rather than putting out hungry dogs ready to beat down their state rival. He knows he can tell fans or whoever disagrees with him to pound sand and he has enough power and influence to back him up.

Next week, we’ll see killer instinct from SMU. They’re a hungry, scrappy team and they will smack this team around like Louisville did. Maybe worse.
