Kentucky Athletic Dept, LLC

This story snuck by late last week but could be a trend we see at larger universities moving forward. Kentucky will be separating their athletic dept form the university and operating as an LLC. The AD will remain but the plan is to bring in some business people to help run it.
A big driver behind this is getting around the challenges associated with state governments, approvals, etc. and thinking ahead if athletes become employees...much easier to navigate in the private world.
The university will still oversee it but now it will run like the business it has been for the past 15 yrs.
I think we'll some others follow.

It's the beginning of "Clemson Tiger Football, LLC" or Georgia Bulldog Football, Inc."

Go ahead and separate sports from college and make this a job. No requirements for school classes, it becomes the business that it is. Personally I dislike what it has become and will hate what is is headed for. Our government had no business getting involved in sports. With the situations we have in this country they be focused on running this country. Just to be clear, I think the Democrats and Republicans are at fault. I blame both equally.

There was a thread on here about it. You missed it. Not surprising. They named their football field after a supermarket.

When taken out of the "state-owned" box the potential for profit risk skyrockets. But it seems inevitable.

I guess we could always sell our field naming rights to Frank's Hot Sauce and call it "Frank's Hot Howard Field"

Will students even be given student tickets anymore?

If it’s separated? I could see them eliminating student seating for more willing big donors or something

Will there possibly be any lawsuits over revenue sharing? An LLC can protect the LLC employees and the University as long as assets aren't inter-mingled. There are a couple exceptions but as long as everything is properly separated, they are pretty much protected.

They may have leapfrogged Clemson with this move and will now probably host the Bananas in the future. Oh for shame.

I think the move may have even been triggered by banana envy.

Probably will help insulate the university from future brain trauma and CTE lawsuits. Maybe a wise financial move.

This will ruin any semblance of college sports. This will allow some Rich Prince to come in and buy the LLC or at least a large percentage as an investment. This will also allow players to Unionize and then sue for profit-sharing just like professional players.
When this becomes a business not tied to University rules, the players are all bought, the student athletes go out the window and are contracted to play with no school loyalty,
I have no interest at watching another professional sport. I dont remember last full NFL game I watched (over 5-6yrs), except for probably SB. I haven't watched MLB in 25yrs, NBA playoffs probably 20yrs ago was last game. It a shame as 3-4yrs ago, I was excited for Gameday Show and Saturday CFB where my Saturday was planned 2-3wks in advance, never again I guess.
