Look where they were b4 he got there! He went 104-45 over 12 years..this is not the late 80s early 90s.. like Nebraska Penn state not what they once were...almost like us now....

Why? They've invested a lot of money in their program with little return. Franklin had produced less with more.

Clemson has had massive success under Dabo. Sustained top-level results including 2 national championships in 4 appearances.
Penn State has not had that. Franklin doesn't have the proven results to survive a terrible losing streak.

So you're obviously not a Clemson fan, but seriously has Franklin won a conference title or a National Championship? Has USC-Columbia ever won a conference division title?

important trophy: The 1969 ACC Title..............and that's it unless you count that one and only one divisional title in the SEC...what was that: the Eastern Divisional one after which they got pounded in the conference title game.
I mean, the Dude they hired to clean their trophies used to be the Maytag repairman featured on TV, 'cause he was used to sitting around and doing a nuttin honey.

It’s gonna depend on who they get to replace him. Cignetti would be a good choice, but some of the other names I’ve heard floating around (Matt Rhule, Matt Campbell) seem like downgrades.
Georgia fired Mark Richt and it turned out better for them. Auburn fired Gene Chizik and it turned out to be a bad move. All depends on who the next guy in the door is.

4-21 against top 10 opponents. That screams he will never win a National Title. If they have the money, which they obviously do, they should cut ties with him and try to find someone to win a National Title.

1-15 vs the top 5, 4-21 vs top 10, 15-30 vs top 25, 4-17 vs Michigan & Ohio St.
He's a good coach, not a great one.
Clearly he was never going to get them over the hump.
They will write a fat check to get who they deem the best available and he will land on his feet at someplace like UNC where 10-2 will be greatly appreciated.

Ive got some friends in PA and asked them about it. Response was: he did well last year and was loaded with returning talent. I told him we are pretty much on the same boat. Committee up was: Dabos got 2 championships under his belt and a number of conference championships... our guy doesn't.
I still think it's a drastic and counter- productive act to fire a coach on mid season. Of course, it worked out pretty well for us the last time it happened here.

The Indiana (Cignetti) had better stay where he is. He is 64 years old. That’s the END of a Head Coaches prime. No wisdom in moving somewhere else to rebuild. This Indiana thing is as far as he will go as he ages. Stay where you are.

I do understand where you are coming from
NORRBEE7 but I guess Coach Saban was just
to motivated to let age stop him from
succeeding year after year until he retired.
I will say that Coach Saban looked and acted
much younger than his age.

I really don't understand this conversation. Penn St (under Paterno) last won a NC in 1986. Paterno had several undefeated season (most of any coach?). And he APPEARED to run a respectable program. All of that went out the window after THE scandal broke. Personally, I don't care if Penn St. ever fields a team again, let alone win. Let alone win 10 or a NC. The Nittany Lions are the 2nd most overrated program in college football (Notre Dame being the first).
I really don't get the media fascination with this program. Why are we supposed to care whether or not this program is successful? People USED to think Penn ST under Jo Pa was everything that is right about college football. Then it turned out, they were everything that was wrong.
