It simply comes down to can Cade perform to his star rating, just like DJU. Our roster talent is elite and hasn’t fallen off, QB play has been what’s “held us back” since Trevor left, not talent.

I feel awesome now. Let’s see us finish in that area! Are you suggesting our coaching is poor if we are performing worse than our roster? The NC State game last year was the most poorly coached game I’ve seen in my Clemson life, so let’s hope these changes work this year!

the coaching miscues at the end of the Miami and FSU games last year, never mind the absolute coaching debacle of the Coot game in 2022. I agree, the roster is fine, the coaching hasn’t been. I pray the changes work this year and we’re back to our late 2010’s stuff!

I would love to agree with you but the talent level at WR has fallen off. The recruiting rankings of the wide receivers may be close to what they were when we were WRU but the production and development of those players is no where near. Having said all that I agree Cade K. Has to play better and avoid the big mistakes and I know we can all think of several from last year.

Yes Clemson has NIL money, but Clemson doesn't have as many places to recruit sponsors to come in and lay down the mega NIL bucks as the schools that are in or very close to the businesses as they do. It would be a win, win situation if Clemson had it like those schools do, but the facts are, there just isn't enough of those types of sponsors in or around Clemson. I know that we here of boosters putting up a lot of NIL cash, but the ones that are doing it are breaking the intended rules for NIL sponsors!!!

and probably has more value as qualifier metric like the BCR was under 4 team CFP. These broad talent metrics can be a bit misleading, they speak more to a teams depth and alone are not great indicators of the presence of difference maker level talent an the 85 man roster.

Have to disagree with some of this. Cade hasn't had NFL talented WRs to work with like TL16 and DJU's first year starting. Hopefully some matured WRs and a couple RS Fresh and true Fresh can help that part of the game.

several of them have no business dressing out in a Clemson uniform. Maybe Western Carolina. Cade is not a 5 star recruit. Talent has dropped significantly since 2018-19. Several misevaluations
Then we have injuries and nobody to put in behind them.
Dabo needs to make changes or its time to hang it up. He earned the right to screw around for 3 years after 2019 with his underqualified coaches, but that leeway is running out.

Our O-line has been piss-poor at protecting the QB and giving time in the pocket the last few years. Mahomes may be able to make something work while running around outside the pocket, but Cade can't (and, frankly, virtually nobody else in CFB could either).

in this current era of college football, especially when someone posts a snarky response about Dabo winning two national championships.
Sorry, but touting his high level success last decade isn't really relevant when talking about the current state of our team in this era of college football. It's a childish response which suggests that Dabo is not to ever be questioned or doubted.
And LOL at you bringing up basketball. Why are you so sensitive about Dabo? Drinking the Dabo cult Kool-Aid, are ya?

Definitely an idiotic take. There is only one active coach in college football that has one a national championship under the new rules (transfer portal and nil). Definitely a Dabo problem though lol. I don’t know where he comes up with this stuff. I’m still waiting on him to tell what coach hired a coach that got busted in a FBI sting trying to buy a player. Then they tried to say the coach who’s hired him had no knowledge it was going on lol. What level of incompetence is that.

We have had subpar coaching at key positions, which has impacted player development and game planning.
Homers here can make all the excuses they want in terms of recruiting, NIL, injuries, etc., but the reality is that we've been on a decline for 4-5 years. It's not really debatable.

Bad evaluation of talent is the main problem. There's been a bunch of 4 star O linemen who haven't panned out. Maybe some of it has been the coaching. Same can be said for the receivers.

Injuries and TOs were problematic. Our offense requires great QB play, and it simply hasn’t been there. This year will be different as a full contingent of WRs and an improved OL will very much help to improve QB play along with CK being a year more experienced. I am expecting a very different offense. Go Tigers!

but performance at certain key positions sure has. Namely, QB and WR.
Based on recruiting, we've certainly gotten our share of highly rated players at these positions, but the problem is that they don't seem to improve as expected. This is a repeated problem which speaks to poor coaching.
If we don't have the coaches to develop players, and game plan to put them in positions to succeed, then we aren't ever going to maximize their talent.
We used to do that really well, better than most. The last 5 years or so, we have done a very poor job of that. That can be traced back to the assistant coaches Dabo has hired.

And yet for all the issues (coaching, player development, injuries), the Tigers continued to find a way to win atleast 9 games since Trevor and Travis graduated. Here’s to reaping the benefits of retaining our most talented players and hopefully getting past so many injuries. I do think Luke and Rumpf plus tskented freshmen can help the Tigers win more decisively this season.

I think we all want Dabo to be our coach for a long time, but many of us want him to adapt to what's happening in college football today.
His way isn't working now, and the constant reassurances from the Dabo cult here are getting old. Recent evidence is staring them in the face and they don't want to see it.

This should be the expectation, yes. Think we’re top 10 in NIL too.
Also, this talent profile is why we only offer very few in the portal. Further, if you break down the position groups, all of them are talented including OL (portal offers).

These rankings certainly make sense considering our selectivity

and Dabo's success in keeping contributors around with his shrewd NIL implementation. If we can stay healthy at skill positions, and the drive and leadership intangibles that have been lesser during the Covid classes kick in better, we will be in the Top 5 come season's end.

WR development really has apparently been a weak spot. We have consistently landed top recruits but for some reason from like 2020-2023 a lot of them just didn’t pan out.
Is this bad injury luck? Poor development etc?
Fortunately things have seemed to trend up. A0 and Tyler Brown are very solid and should develop even further. Westco and Moore are super talented, the key will be can we actually get the most out of them like we used to with our elite WR in the mid 2010s?
