Just an observation.

I've come to this conclusion.
Message boards have become a magnet for negativity, and it is getting worse every year. Tigernet is no better or worse than other boards.
Bama fans want to fire DeBoer. Ole Miss fans now want to fire Kiffin. FSU fans want to fire Norvell (at least that is understandable) after last year calling him the best coach in America. I haven't read any LSU boards, but I'll bet they want to fire Kelly. I know OU fans, until Saturday, wanted to fire Venables.
The portal is just an excuse. FSU fans are upset because Norvell uses the portal. Clemson fans are upset because Dabo doesn't use the portal.
The portal is the latest excuse. Losses are the reason.
And, we are at the point where many message board fans will only be satisfied with a national championship. Anything less is a complete failure of a year.

Most the whiners are youngins that don't even remember the era of ########## which was only 15yrs ago. Dabo has made Clemson more relevant than we have ever been but the immediate satisfaction youth expect Natties or they are ready to fire someone. Just like the recruits that expect immediate $$'s instead of working to develop under a good program, just take the highest offer (immediate satisfaction society).

You should never fire a coach with consistent success. Meaning look at what you were before that coach was there, or has he had at least 3 to 5 years to turn it around. And that should be closer to 5 then 3 years most of the time.

You remember Spiro was the guy who gave the speech that contained that phrase. But for a bonus question, do you know who his speechwriter was - the guy who actually wrote those words?
Just having fun with you. For some reason I learned this about 15 or so years after the speech when the writer had become a public political figure himself.

You are absolutely correct. Messages boards provide a platform for people whose opinions would never be considered by those responsible for running the subject of the board to express those opinions and claim they know more than the people who are responsible for the subject of the board. They are self proclaimed experts looking to prove their expertise or to be in line to be the first to say “I told you so”. The most vocal are usually the most negative and we all know misery loves company.

Not sure why you don't think I'm a Clemson fan. Don't think I a non Clemson fan would have gone to every home game for 40+ years, every bowl game thru 2009, and most all of the away games from 65-85.
I've stated in other threads that I do have some wonderful gamecock fans. Some who went to the Clemson game with me and then fast drove and went to the Carolina game at night. Yes, I root for the gamecocks when we're not playing them.
Yes, I congratulated them and beamer in a thread. I like Shane. If Dabo left, he'd be my first pick to replace him. Yes, I've been very vocal that Carolina should be ranked above us this year. We haven't proven anything on the field except that we can run up the score on app st teams. Their body of work is better than ours. Yes, the last couple of years, Shane has done more with less vs Dabo, who's done less with more.
Call me a coot then.
What else? Oh yeah, I've soured on Dabo. He used to never make excuses. He used to never blame the refs, he used to never whine about injuries. He used to never brag about himself at every chance he gets.

I've tried to be honest from day one. I'm a Nole fan first. Clemson is my second favorite team.
I found this board back when Clemson was looking for a coach and ended up hiring Tommy Bowden.
I understand fans being very skeptical of me and assuming I was a troll and not a Clemson fan. But, over time, this board basically understood where I was coming from and has been very welcoming to me. Because of this board I've had the pleasure of being in Death Valley twice and experiencing the joy of watching The Tigers beat Louisville and Wake.

If you want to see what coot fans are really like, let them have the best season than they've had since Spurrier, Just let Beamer leave for another job after giving them their best season since Spurrier, they would Bulldoze a Beamer statue and hire a hit man to go after him bc they don't know how to appreciate anything good happening for their FB program. Carolina is playing far better than I expected. Clemson run defense, or lack thereof, is a big concern. But, hopefully, the DL (and Woodazz) are healthy now and the run D will be much better.
The game should be a toss up.
But, I give two advantages, to Clemson.
1. Death Valley 2. Dabo vs. Beamer.

No doubt. In a nutshell, people are unhappy and that spills out into this kind of forum, where the consequences for “going off” really amount to zero.
I think the more important question is, “who is responsible for your happiness”?
The answer is looking back at you from the mirror.

One of the Clemson pregame shows uses the catch line “on the road to the national championship “ or playoffs or something like that.
Its ludicrous. Success in any field is measured in context of resources. Achievement is on a sliding scale. Empiricism can play a role in cohort evaluation, but individuals and individual teams deserve grades relative to their optimal outcomes.
Case in point: sometimes a 9-4 record is over achieving in college football.
Setting a relatively arbitrary expectation of “national championship” isn’t realistic. That’s why Dabo’s goals include objectives such as “win the opener”, “win the state”, etc. And when the team fails to accomplish those, we have to admit that “national championship” was a flawed assumption and goal.
We should be better than that.

I have known for a long time that social media brings out the worst in just about everyone I know. It is simply because you can post the unfiltered thoughts in your head without consequences. You can be as mean as you want to be, rude as you want to be, disrespectful as you want to be, and nobody in going to knock the teeth out of your head. None of your family or friends are going to know what a total A_s_S you really are. They can all just keep on thinking what a nice family guy or girl you are without any real idea of how rude and rotten you can be to other people over something as silly as football.

You’ve come to the conclusion that humans will continue to exhibit the traits of human nature.
Congratulations, here’s the POTD for your revolutionary thought.
Oh, FFS.

The bigger question re: sports is why ministers, lawyers, doctors, CEO’s, … you name it all of us care so much about football scores? Are we just living vicariously through million dollar coaches and now players winning or losing a battle for three hours ( or four) on a given Saturday?
