Josh Pate is throwing dirt on the Clemson grave.

Man, he's not just talking about a game. He's talking about the death of a program. (Not that they will give up the sport, but they will never be relevant on the national stage again.)
I know Josh is in the business to say wild things to get clicks. I'm not in any way saying I agree with him. I'm just sitting here watching him on his Sunday night show and listening to him talk about Clemson like Patton talked about Rommel.
I'm sure you can find a snippet of his comments on Clemson on youtube tomorrow. You won't have to listen to the whole show. Or, you can just ignore it.
Just saying, I expected him to talk about the game, but I didn't expect him to be THAT negative about the future of Clemson football.

That is one of the reasons I was as surprised as I was about his level of negativity.
For the past month he has been talking Clemson up, calling the Tigers one of the most underrated teams in America.

Well, to be fair and not a hippo, everyone on tnet for the past month has been talking about how great we are and we can't wait to get another shot at UGA in the CFP. And tnet today sounded a whole lot like what you described Pate as saying. I have not watched Pate in a month or so, but I like his show and he has ALWAYS been very positive about Dabo and Clemson. Maybe he now sees what many on tnet see. We got problems and we are not an elite team.

Dang Brett - what positives did you see from our team Saturday night? Our coaching was non-existent - confused when the bright lights came on.

Like many have said here, Dabo is perfectly fine staying in the ACC and winning 7-10 (cupcake) games a year. There are fans that would be happy with that too.
He thinks he’s earned the right to stay at CLemson for as long as he wants. It’s up to you guys to support that and his salary every year. IMO his success was based on great coordinators that are no longer there.

Everyone knows how bad the ACC is. That’s why you need to schedule out of conference powerhouses, not the Citadel. That’s why there is no respect.

I think you are stretching the truth. Dabo has to stay in the ACC. It's not his job to negotiate moving to the SEC or Big 10 while paying that huge penalty to the ACC.
Yes, Venables and the staff from 2015-2019 that built that monster are gone. Dabo is the CEO and needs to find replacements. He has done it before so we know he can, we don't know if he will be able to repeat history. I think he needs to be more aggressive like Saban and chop heads when they don't work out

Well PCB, some of us, including yourself have said ever since the uga game, yes Cade and the team has looked good but we were told we were negative Nancy's and should enjoy the ride.
I have been cautiously optimistic while pointing out that a lot of teams, including a turrible albarn team could beat cupcakes by 40 points. And everyone wanted to say our first team D was awesome and that all the points were garbage points being given up by 2nd and 3rd stringers. Guess there was reason to be cautiously optimistic... and Louisville is by no means an elite team. Neither is va tech or Pitt.

How dare you speak common sense?!
The point I’ve been making all along is the defense wasn’t good enough to compete in big boy football. I wasn’t wrong. I’ve also been screaming Goodwin isn’t the guy. 2021 BV had the number two total defense in football. Enter Pork Chop. We dropped to 22 in 2022. 32 in 2023. We’re sitting at 68 in 2024.
I also see Dabo is directing offensive play calling again. You can always tell because when’s defense has a single high safety or zero coverage the play call is a dive through the A gap against an 8 man box. Riley has NEVER done that. Except here. When Riley is left alone he utilizes defensive alignment. Dabo wants to run the ball. I believe Dabo would run the ball against an 11 man box. He has and did Saturday.
I kept saying the UGA game played later would be different. We’d probably still lose but it should be a closer game. I don’t believe that anymore. It would be the same or worse
How do we fix it? Clean house. Get rid of Cole Stoudt, Goodwin, Conn, Ward, Boyd, Grisham, Will Swinney, and all the other sycophants and nepotism hires. Hire the best position coaches and coordinators money can buy. Wes Goodwin at best should have been hired by Georgia State or an HBCU.
Embrace the portal. We used to have a pipeline from Hargrave Military Academy. Not every player has offers out of high school. I cite Marcellus Dial. I’m a friend of his mother and he’s a great example. He had zero offers out of high school and had to play junior college ball to develop. He developed into a stud. He wanted to come to Clemson. Dabo wouldn’t have it. He goes to SC and becomes a college star and gets drafted by New England. A prime example of a zero star player that needed time to grow. He was a perfect fit for our culture. Not every kid is a me-first piece of crap out for dollars.
What about Dillon Gabriel?! Sure would have loved to see him wearing orange and purple.
Something has to change. The decline is real. The only common denominator I see is Dabo doing it differently than what got us to the mountain top. Go back to being that great ceo. Delegate.

Josh Pate has been a stooge ever since joining 247. He is just another paid network talking head whose opinion shifts with the wind in order to stay relevant. This is the reason he has not had an honest opinion in 5 years, and is not worth paying attention to.

From what I can tell from his many viewers and many coaches he has on his podcast and who interact with him, he is well respected by the industry. He is also a very talented screen writer.
I don't think calling him a stooge just because he said what many Clemson fans are saying and have been saying about our program becoming less relevant speaks highly of your ability to counter his assertions with thoughtful assertions of your own. Calling him a stooge is pretty lazy thinking and insulting.

I did not hear him talking about the death of a program. I heard him say that the program is no longer elite and has not been for some time as it once was under Dabo. He stated that it would never reach that elite status again under Dabo unless he changed with the times now driving the sport. That is far from calling the death of the program. Maybe, your definition of a program death is different than his or mine. The part of the program as an elite program playing for a natty and competing with the top elite programs is dead. But the program is not dead.

But one game or a decision to not take transfers isn’t the death and permanent damage to our program, we can’t get a transfer right now so no use to complain about it right now.
Louisville game was lost by an ineffective offensive plan, and a defense that doesn’t know how to stop the run
Maybe we can figure it out this weekend, and I’m hopeful we can

I, and many others, have noticed this trend for 4-5 years
Heck, even in our last natty year Elliott’s play calling was head scratchingly bad at times, but we had the horses to cover it up and Venables holding down the fort on the other side of the ball. When Trevor and Venables left, that stone just started rolling down the hill and picking up speed.
The list of highly rated players who came into the program over that same span and washed out or simply never improved is unacceptable, and reflects the inexperience and ineptitude of the various position coaches that Dabo has gifted jobs to.
For someone who truly loves CU first and foremost, looking at the list of various AD employees and realizing our coach, who we are already paying $11M a year to, is using the program as a friends and family largess program should have anyone spitting mad. It’s tacky and unethical as hellll and the man is doing it with no shame.
There’s plenty of examples for the past few years where Dabo has put himself, his pride, and his acquaintances above running a serious program—-it didn’t just start after one game.

Is he wrong? I mean it's nothing that a lot of others have been saying. Top win of the season is 5-4 NC State. Lost to the only 2 good teams by a combined score of like 67-24?? This program is no longer a factor on tbe national scene. That is a fact. We will win 7-9 games and occasionally hit 10, but in this new Era of CFB we are not winning a natty with our current approach. That is a fact!!

Bret, the problem is, Josh is correct a large portion of the time in the stuff he says. If you want lies, innuendo and flagrant inflammatory statements, see Finebaum as he is the leader of the class in that respect.
As for Josh Pate and his Clemson take on the state of the program.........it is hard to take issue with anything he said.

The bigger they are, the harder they fall. Unfortunately, our rivals are happy to pile on when things start going tough. Once the spiral starts, media makes the story stick. Recruits get scared away, and the next thing you know, the story becomes a reality. Alabama would suffer the same fate if they start having 3-4 loss seasons. Football fans across the country were on Clemson overload a few years ago, and I think this is the result

Until we have an effective offense that can put points on the board, Clemson will lose
You wanna know how I know that? Clemson had a da*n good defense last year and we still sucked. Why? Because our offense was TERRIBLE.
This season is even worse because we now have a bad offense AND a bad defense.
