Falsehood flies, and truth comes limping after it, so that when men come to be undeceived, it is too late; the jest is over, and the tale hath had its effect: like a man, who hath thought of a good repartee when the discourse is changed, or the company parted; or like a physician, who hath found out an infallible medicine, after the patient is dead.

I’m thinking maybe just drop the politics and pay respect. I probably disagree with Carter on most things but he seemed to be a very fine man.

I have a story … but for now I will write only that I loved the man.

Tell the story. I never met him but about 15 years ago he came in the Cracker Barrel in Anderson when I was there. Of course a crowd swarmed him in the gift area and he graciously took a lot of time talking to people and shaking hands. I just stood back and watched. I’ve met a number of famous people and honestly I’ve never been star struck not even a little. But that day I was just a tad star struck. I kept thinking “wow that’s a former president in the dadgum Cracker Barrel”. lol.

He always seemed like a gentle soul. Very rare in the political jungle.
