Jim phillips they were talking bout him today on the radio

made me think about growing up in the state how he shaped so many of my memories. Before Cable TV (80's) I was glued to my radio in the yard on a cold saturday clinging to my FB and dreaming of the scene he would describe.
Amazing stuff. Made me want to go and find some clips. of JP . A Clemson Gentleman and Clemson Legend.

Jim had a way of making you feel as if you were there in Death Valley or Littlejohn even if you were hundreds of miles away watching the radio.

my Father was a lifelong ND fan

my Uncle on my Mom's side played for Frank Howard from '55 to '58 and took my Pop to South Bend for that game...(he'd never been there and had been an ND fan since the '40's) My Uncle said that my Pop turned to him in the 4th quarter and said, "Brother in Law..Good God they play nasty defense...." I was listening on the radio to Jim call that game while the Tigers were beating the Irish with my Uncle and Pop in the stands. I've got pics of them in front of Touchdown Jesus with my Uncle holding out a Tiger Rag while my Pop had the time of his life except on the scoreboard. RIP both of them. They both lit the fire in me for college and pro sports that will never go out.

I remember that game so well. I had a virus that day, and I had stomach cramps that were so awful, all I could do was roll around on the floor in front of the TV. It was still one of the most exciting and enjoyable games I've ever seen.

listen to me, but he was so iconically Clemson. I miss him Bob Fulton and Larry Munson.
Do kids even listen to radio broadcast games now? I used to hunt the am dial for far away college games after the Clemson broadcast was over

before Cable TV there was no way to get your tigers if you did not go to the game UNLES you were listening n on the radio. He was like an artist painting and the radio waves were his easel.

go to, Jim's voice was reverberating through our house on Saturday's while listening to so many games, to include the 82-24 blasting of Wake Forest...remember that one so well in particular. I sat there on the couch listening to him call that game...."Homer takes out, rolls right and fires to Tuttle over the middle for a Tiger first down!...." He was the master.

I listened to him during the 60's and 70's, when The Tigers didn't win so much.
Check out my blood runs orange videos. He has dvd's of games in the 70's and 80's, and they're not real pricey. Jim Phillips does the play by play on the videos. It's almost like talking to a good friend you haven't talked to in years.

in his name? Just curious, as we were only up for the SC State game where he was honored. It would be nice to know they finally got it taken care of

Bob Fulton for South Carolina. (before they became coots) They were very similar, both classy, and BTW good friends. We probably will not see as classy a pair of announcers/personalities again ever.

I hung on every word Jim Philips uttered. He was great at painting that mental picture and always kept on top of the plays. In contrast, have y'all ever tried to figure out what is happening listening to Todd Ellis call a game? I can't even tell who has the ball half the time.
