Reading the Hokie boards, Virginia Tech fans now are scared.

May 18, 2012, 3:39 PM

Someone posted that the "word on the street" is that they are in talks with both the B12 and SEC. Who the heck knows if that's true? Could be BS. But if it is true, the RMS TitAAniC is taking in water. What a kick in the gut if we wake up soon one morning to read "VT to the SEC".

VT in the SEC makes too much sense. But, their state law

May 18, 2012, 3:41 PM

confuses me regarding UVA and VT. I don't know what it is, but I've just heard it prevents them from parting ways with UVA.

I'd be pissed if true.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

politicians arent going to let them do anything unless as a

pair. And nobody wants snooty UVA

well they made that bed if so

UVA will have options as well. I think eventually- MD UVA and UNC go B10 if none go B12 or SEC

That not the nightmare I'm afraid of. The one that scare the living H&LL out of me is. We wake up one morning and FSU and VT are gone, and we are still in the acc, and stuck in it. My mental state couldn't deal with that. I would give up all sports for ever.

haha, be real now. You would still watch....with a frown.***

HA! There is NO STATE LAW. The Virginia gov't would give their blessings for VT to be raking in SEC TV dollars. Less of a burden on the taxpayers!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There is no state law that prohibits VT and UVA from ever

May 18, 2012, 6:02 PM [ in reply to VT in the SEC makes too much sense. But, their state law ]

parting ways. The then-governor (Mark Warner) was very instrumental in getting VT into the ACC, not the General Assembly. The governor is no longer in office and if a situation ever came up where either VT or UVA had to make a decision to leave the conference (for a better situation) or stay in the conference and sink, then you can bet the farm that both schools would look out for themselves (as they should).

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Probably the only way you read that...

May 18, 2012, 3:42 PM

Is if the run-on-the-ACC-bank has already started. FSU goes to the B12, followed by Clemson. At that point, all heck breaks loose, and hence, VT to the SEC becomes a reality.

Re: Probably the only way you read that...

May 18, 2012, 3:43 PM

And probably NC State to the SEC, too.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

As long as we can go some place better, I'm fine with that.

May 18, 2012, 3:46 PM

State would just be another Kentucky for the rest to feed on and VT would get knocked down a couple pegs.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

NCSt makes absolutely no sense IMO.

May 18, 2012, 3:46 PM [ in reply to Re: Probably the only way you read that... ]

It does nothing to expand your TV market and you're not gaining a program that people even care to watch on TV.

UNC rules the state of North Carolina. Nobody really cares about NCSt.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It could Wake, Dook, UNC or NC state...

May 18, 2012, 4:28 PM

It doesn't matter. Any of those schools gives the SEC a footprint in North Carolina and allows them to market for TV in that state.

NC State is the most football-centric of those schools, and would be logical. If I were the SEC though, I'd take UNC, if they'd come along. They bring the most to the table overall, even though I hate them.

I've seen SCar play on TV in NC before, so I don't get how

May 18, 2012, 3:50 PM

that expands the market... not to mention that UNC dominates that state as far as fans/viewers.

Re: I've seen SCar play on TV in NC before, so I don't get how

May 18, 2012, 6:24 PM

It would expand the reach of the hypothetical "SEC network". in order for the network to be on basic cable in NC the SEC would need a NC school

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

NC St and UNC are controlled by the same board.

May 18, 2012, 3:53 PM [ in reply to RECENT Bleacher Report Story On VaTech AND NCSt To SEC.... ]

The board that runs UNC would have to agree to NC State leaving UNC behind.

Every team not in the Pac, B1G, Big12, and SEC

May 18, 2012, 4:08 PM

should be worried.

Those that aren't in those conferences will be relegated to the status of Boise State. They could be great but no matter how great, they'll NEVER play for a National Championship.

This will be like creating a 3rd division between the FBS and FCS schools only there's not chance to win a championship.

Be afraid, be very afraid.

Re: Reading the Hokie boards, Virginia Tech fans now are scared.

May 18, 2012, 5:38 PM

All this just reinforces the importance for Clemson to be (a) partnered with someone to make a jump, (b) ready to jump, (c) ready to jump FAST. If we are left behind with a bunch of basketball schools, it would be the worst possible outcome.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They should be, we have a larger fan base…..

May 18, 2012, 6:46 PM

and if the Big 12 just adds 2 us and FSU are going to be the choices. If that happens they better hope the SEC adds two more teams.
