And I still think it’s a terrible idea. Clemson is better than this.
Thank you.

Has anyone said how much we expect to make? I suppose it will be a big day in terms of beer sales as well.
When you’re operating a semi professional sports business using a university’s name every revenue opportunity is on the table.

I said just about the same thing to myself last night. Clemson is being used to just make money. We’ve all known for some time that “it’s a business.” The baseball game in The Valley is just a PT Barnum moment. You almost have to have alcohol and go “bananas” to witness. What’s the world coming to?

A wise man once said no publicity is bad publicity. The entire sports world is talking about banana ball at legendary Memorial Stadium aka Death Valley. Genius marketing move. Broke the world record for ticket sales to a single baseball game in history. There’s no negative to this move.

The crazy old men on T-Net are yelling get off my Valley! What's the harm? You are going to re-sod anyway. We are going to see more of this in the future -- special events in athletic facilities. Concerts coming back. Need to keep the dollars flowing.

This will be big positive exposure for Clemson

The founder of the Bananas, Jesse Cole, was extremely effusive and positive about Clemson when his team played our baseball team. He's a huge fan of Clemson, and, even though a lot of you guys don't know about the Bananas or care about them, they're a big, new phenomenon in sports right now and have a huge following and fan base. This will be nothing but positive for Clemson. The university will make money, but the exposure we get will be significant as well.
This will be a big event for families and people who don't ordinarily get to Clemson - they'll see the campus, spend money downtown, and such.
I see it as a win-win and think it's a great idea. We're the only college stadium they're playing in, I think. The rest are pro venues.
Go Tigers!

Dabo said a year (or maybe 2?) or so ago that Clemson had some great ideas for events in Death Valley. He even pitched a Kenny Chesney concert to Neff. I was thinking those were the kind of things we would see and still hope we do. I think the Bananas game sounds like a lot of fun and certainly an innovative event for Death Valley. As long as the grass is back in shape by August 30, I think it’s a great idea.

I'm guessing you are against the idea I recently submitted to Neff for a mid-November Death Valley Turkey Shoot.
I'll need your support in order to insure it goes off as planned.

Any time you can bring 80k+ people into town you have to say yes. That's millions of dollars that will be spent in and around town. 80k people for a baseball game, not to mention the thousands of local folks who will come and hang out around town just to tailgate and have a good time.... It's like adding another home football game, so I'm sure it was such an easy "yes" from Neff and Clements when the Bananas proposed the idea.

It just good business. We have a asset, a massive one, that can generate revenue for the school and town. Yet it sits empty ~98% of the time.
Granted its a different type of venue, however in comparison Capital One Arena (Caps/Wiz/Mystics/etc) holds 220 events a year, they maximize their asset. We can do better than 7-10 events a year there.

It is a great publicity idea and will no doubt bring some major bucks. Whoever came up with the Savannah Banana idea is a marketing genius.
