A forthcoming test of G. Neff’s leadership

Admittedly, if Clemson’s name isn’t called as one of the tournament teams today, I’ll feel absolutely nothing.
I’m not sure if I’m typical or an outlier, but I suspect a lot of Clemson fans feel that way about our basketball program. Years and years of mediocrity and disappointment will do that of course, but Coach Brownell seems to epitomize that mediocrity.
The Clemson basketball coach is the embodiment of what Clemson basketball is. If there isn’t sufficient will to change it, then perhaps he’s truly the coach Clemson deserves for another 13-years.

You guys are living in a dream world . If you truly believe that Clemson will make a coaching change after this season you know very, very little about sports!

I have no idea what Neff is going to do. He is in a tough spot. However, I do believe he will make his decision on what he believes is best for the future of Clemson basketball and not based on anything that has occurred in the past. He has to look forward and decide if our future is better with what we have or is it better to take a risk and make some changes.

I believe your analysis is spot on. Lots of variables to consider. Wondering if we are truly positioning ourselves for a move to the B10 (as has been reported) how would this factor into the equation?

reaching a state of ambivalence is the final step in truly being over something. In my view, a substantial portion of our fan base have reached that point as well.
That’s not a good thing for Clemson basketball.

I agree. I’m in the same place and I have been there longer than Brownell has been the coach at Clemson. Maybe that’s why I just don’t have a strong opinion either way regarding his future as our coach. The Charlie Brown field goal analogy is spot on as far as I am concerned. And again - I’m not blaming Brownell. I’ve felt that way for a lot more than 13 years.

You're probably right, and it proves JKs point about the University not placing a high value on basketball program. The powers-that-be seem more than willing to let CBB keep rolling along mired in mediocrity (well, slightly above average overall offset by abysmal losses).

That's the problem. The Administration is obviously content with what Brownell produces.

Yeah, I think that’s right, and until the human action model kicks in, we’ll see more of the same.

I hope it's a push.
If he gets a contract extension that increases his buyout I'd think the AD is making a mistake.

Ppl said the same about streeter… I do agree it’s stupid as hell we didn’t get in and don’t understand it , and def feel like we should have been in… but we aren’t and that is on us for losing a handful of games including 3 which we had absolutely no business losing so the team could have taken care of business agaisnt terrible teams like scar, Loyola, and a 3 win Louisville team we aren’t even having this convo.. and to be honest if we win just one of those 3 we are in so it’s on us ultimately for the bad losses

Probably. But apparently not good enough to make the 68 team field this year...

Brownell's season looked better than his team actually was due to the ACC being so weak this year. The ACC NET ranking is horrid.

this morning. The haters and torch burners are out in full force. If you win 23 games in a single season at Clemson and finish fourth in the ACC standings, you do not get fired. That's the bottom line. If the athletic director decides to make a change, the portal is open and there will be transfers. And Clemson returns to the bottom of the ACC. But that's what some Clemson fans want. Can't have winning basketball. It takes away from football recruiting and spring football.

I'm not a hater NOR do I have a torch but... Brad has had long enough to cultivate a winning program if he had the ability or if that was his intention! ( And that should have begun in the first year or two, not in year 14! ) Also not making a change out of fear is just prolonging the inevitable. Clemson deserves a better basketball coach in my opinion. With a new coach Clemson also needs to invest in the basketball program as was the case with football! We will all find out soon enough. FIRE BROWNLEE!(also known as the Tommy Bowden of basketball)

You'd think such an expert on Clemson basketball would know we finished 3rd (not 4th) in the ACC men's basketball.
Surprised you would diminish Brad's accomplishments.

Actually finished tied for second. Tiebreakers are used only for seeding purposes. If Brownell had beaten Louisville or BC, Clemson would have had its second ACC (co) regular season championship.

This is exactly the kind of fear-based loser mentality that keeps Brownell employed. I'd rather be at the bottom of the ACC then paying a guy 2 1/2 million dollars to play in the NIT, or worse, every year
