Better seats?? Need advice

Aug 9, 2014, 8:42 PM

Anyone have some advice?. While i enjoy donating to the program BC I feel it helps, at the same time, I would like a little get back. My seat equity is a few hundred a year for my 2 seats,in end zone. However, I give over 8x that amount BC of the parking i prefer. Is that all I'm really paying for? BC every I request better seats and nothing changes. If you've got any pointers, they'd be much appreciated.. My wife is pushing me to just lower donations to minimum, buy a spot if tiger walk and break even in a few years. I get her logic, we'd own the space, could resell whenever, Save money long term and our seats wouldn't change....

I'd like to continue giving directly to the school, but if our seats don't move, I may cave

If you get moved up one day that's a bonus. I have been in the end zone and giving 3-4x minimum for 20+ years. Frankly now that the score board shades us I'm pretty cool with our seats.
See what I did there?

That's my point as well but you know how a wife can be... Ha.

But yes, it's def shaded which is nice and right next to our parking. All bonuses. She's upset BC others we now give way less and have much better seats and she won't take the "they've been giving longer argument".

The advice is at much for the misses as it is for dealing with IPTAY. Lol

Give the minimum and buy the spots at tiger walk. At least you are making an investment and getting your money back in the long term.

Is that my wife? I'm gonna need a second "opinion", haha.

I am also considering buying a parking spot elsewhere and buying tickets outside the stadium. Haven't pulled the trigger on doing it yet but as games, IPTAY, concessions etc get more and more expensive, finances definitely come in to play. Next year will be a tough decision for me.

Your seats are unlikely to change until we have a lousy year

Aug 9, 2014, 9:59 PM

I've had the same frustrating problem for several years now. I have donated well above my seat's value for quite some time, partly to get good parking and partly in the hopes that eventually they'd move me out of the seats I'm in. I bumped my donation level up once again last year (thanks to a new corporate matching gift program) and was hoping that would make a difference, but it didn't. So this year I dropped down and gave the minimum necessary to keep my seats. My parking spot is much less desirable, unfortunately, but I'm dealing with it. The decision to drop my donation was about half financial decision, and half frustration that I'm apparently never going to move.

Season ticket renewals are typically at 90% or above, and the very few seats that do come available are allocated to higher donors first. We will have to have a significantly down year or two in order for better seats to become widely available. For example I got into the seats I have now the year after our 6-7 season, moving from the upper deck to the lower deck. (Unfortunately they're lousy lower deck seats and I can't get IPTAY to move me.)

Part of my curiosity. What do y'all consider "higher" donation levels. Wondering if paying more for 1 year to get the seats, then lowering right down to seat minimum would work.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

2 considerations. First level then points. So it may help

Aug 10, 2014, 12:20 PM

to up level one year but only if you have enough points in that level. You compete for seats within your level based on points. How much above seat equity has nothing to do with upgrades only in if you are offered the same seats again. To hold current seats you must meet seat equity but it does not function for much else

It's still a good 'ole boy system, always will be even

Aug 9, 2014, 10:18 PM

though IPTAY says it isn't.

/\ /\ Not true (and I'm not a rep.) I got my brother-in-law to join last year and his tickets are in Section P (and I do NOT know anyone in the IPTAY office). You have to learn the Seat Equity Plan & use it to your advantage. It wouldn't hurt to have a "Gift Matching Program" with your employer. Hope this helps.

If you don't my me asking Smity, what donor level was he? That prob makes biggest difference.

Like I said, we go so much above seat equity plan, can't do much more there.

He joined IPTAY in 2013 at the $2800 level. He paid $1400 & his employer paid $1400. We bought 2 tickets in Sec P & 6 tix in Sec R. We know NOBODY in IPTAY. You've got to know how the SE Plan works.

The # of tickets purchased also makes a huge difference

Aug 11, 2014, 8:05 AM

If you're buying 1 season ticket, you're going to get great seats because you're just filling random empty spots.

If you're buying 2 season tickets, chances of you jumping ahead of donors like me is still pretty high. I know part of the problem with improving my seats is that I buy 4 tickets.

I'm guessing he gave at the $10,000 level, but that is still hard to believe he could come in and get seats in P the first year. That is midfield.

Not if he gave 10k. That's believable.

Re: Better seats?? Need advice

Aug 10, 2014, 6:16 PM

Maybe it's just me, but I'd almost prefer they'd raise the seat equity plan by a lot. Prevent people from giving a lot once to get good seats then giving lower amounts. Make people be consistent over time and rid of the casual fan....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think this has to be coming

Aug 10, 2014, 8:16 PM

Otherwise people will continue to game the system too much. Until then, I'm stuck in my 3+1 seat grouping. Thinking about going to 3+2 next year and maybe that will move at least 2 of mine.

To your point of giving & then giving a lower amount: Once a person gets the "good seats", you still have to maintain that certain level of giving to keep those seats.

work.

First, I'm going to invent a time machine.
Second, I'm going back in time about 70 years.
Third, once back in the '40s, I'm establishing an endowment that will pay for my IPTAY membership at about $5,000/year and my tickets.
Lastly, I'll return to the present and enjoy great parking and great seats.

I think step 3 is going to be the tough part.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

donation. .....

Aug 11, 2014, 8:17 AM

I was in the same boat as you and my decision was to stop getting season tickets. I still donate to iptay.
