That’s a lot of numbers. I guess the bottom line is it’s good news. I’m not a Twitter guy. My social media coverage pretty much ends with TNet and Linked In.

Clemson is winning because of Dabo. Twitter and social media mean very little. Dabo is the reason. Put Bowden back in charge and watch the yearly records go down.

Clemson is winning because of a vision that took a good fan base into a great fan base by making every Tiger a partner in the building the IPTAY, culture, facilities, buss, mojo, belief and expectation to win it all goal every year.
Our fan base is also thankful/grateful and proud to be Tigers... the paw is famous now. Little ole Clemson overachieving again & again!

Nice to have a million+ social media following that can translate into $s for NIL through built in customers and donors. It would have been more encouraging to hear the new CAB has a vault full of money like $10 million. Can or will every one of the million + social media followers donate $10 to make this happen?

NIL dollar-count matters, not CU's Twitter-follower count.

It's great that Clemson has 1M twitter followers but it's not very relevant to NIL deals unless someone can show that it results in more NIL dollars than rich-booster-funded NIL deals.

How is it not relevant?

To me it seems inescapably relevant, rather than irrelevant?
Don't forget, we had the first nationwide million-dollar NIL deal outright. Having the top-rated funding arm in college athletics doesn't hurt, either, & neither does the first dedicated NIL building in college sports.

It's not really about Clemson supporting its players' NIL & branding choices outright, though; remember, Clemson doesn't do that at all outright; Clemson doesn't even let players use the Clemson logo, such as DJU's nationwide Bojangles commercial.
The inescapable point about Clemson showing how good it is at branding & engagement is
how valuable that is to the credibility & opportunity of its upcoming NIL Institute.
It's like opening a restaurant vs. opening a restaurant with a 3-star Michelin rating & a celebrity chef.

Maybe. But still, it's a relatively meaningless stat.

1M is better than 0, but what is difference in brand value between 1M and 500K? Nada, at least in terms of marketing/brand value. The only thing follower count is good for is selling sponsored tweets, which again, is a moot point when it comes to NIL.

Again you're focusing on the numbers having meaning, or rather, no meaning, rather that being outright moot like I said; they can't do is what you keep saying is the only thing that matters (?), rather than Clemson's NIL Institute being the outlier & why it shouldn't be a surprise that it is vastly more likely to be successful than not.

follower count has little to no actual value. It's all perceptual, for however far that goes, which isn't far when we're talking about established institutions with pre-existing name recognition. Clemson Athletics isn't a TikTok rising star where followers at least give some semblance of brand authority.
The value of follow counts stems from early digital strategies when there weren't very many other metrics to gauge digital marketing success.
Let's just say if you can buy 100k followers from a bot farm in Bangalore for a few grand, it's not a reliable metric.

I still hear you, I promise, every time, it's just that you're still only making the same point.
You're not wrong; the numbers are as moot as the point about them being relevant is all, but we already discussed that part above & what the outlying point is with the first-of-its-kind branding center & its value in Clemson's participation in NIL having at least some literal, measurable results in branding & marketing. I work in branding, & you're also suggesting Clemson's both illegitimately getting followers & that even the real ones have little value.
In all sincerity, I do disagree & consequently see measurable results (i.e., profit) from social engagement, although again to be fair it's part of my line of work by nature.

A digital agency will tell you followers means
Feb 22, 2022, 2:29 PM
|
|
impressions and impressions means reach and reach means eyeballs and eyeballs mean developing a relationship and that relationship will eventually lead to conversions. I get it. They have to believe that.
But I'm an old school direct response guy, and just don't buy it. I think a "branding center" is mostly puffery, just like bragging about how many followers you have. Maybe it has more consequence in NIL deals, but I have my doubts.
Maybe the actual value is in that puffery; in selling to guys that "hey look, we have a 'branding center'!" But, that's a completely different animal than just bragging about a follow count.

He's right. Make no mistake, Clemson IS at the front of the line in NIL.
Anyone acting like Clemson doesn't stand a chance in the NIL era should consider Clemson is instead about to define the whole thing (again) especially with the CAB/NIL Institute opening in mere months. Get ready!

schools are talking about money and we're talkinga bout twitter followers? I undeerstand that if there are a lot of followers, there could be reason to sponser. But this article did not make me feel any better about Clemson's actions in this sphere. The fans talking at booster meetings have reason to be concerned. Where's the Beef!

But this is about how clearly Clemson knows how to participate in media & branding at the top level & how they can continue to help players do the same thing for their deals & brands.

Clemson has the huge twitter following because they win!
Feb 22, 2022, 2:54 PM
|
|
The Twitter-verse will not be there if Clemson begins being a 7-8 win program.
The key to remaining a super popular program on Twitter is to continue to win big.
Can Clemson find a way to play the NIL game effectively?
If not, can Clemson continue to win big without the NIL money?
To be continued ...

I hear you, but it seems like this article is more about how Clemson is more likely to define success in NIL & will continue to do so, rather than the suggestion of other programs suddenly having boosters & businesses giving players money & Clemson not having either in spite of what we've already seen & Clemson's explicit plans including the branding center in the story above.

I am old and never have, nor never will look at Twitter but unless something has changed, NIL is about hard cash, not tweets or posts. Never heard of taking tweets to a car dealer and buying a car so what is the purpose of the article?

I'm an old lady, like great-grandmother old, and I think some of y'all don't understand how social media works. When Clemson FB tweets about one of our players there's a link to their personal account, folks go over and follow them. Then the player links a comment to his personal instagram, youtube, tiktok accounts and it all multiplies.
How this translates into money is amazing and I'll use Darien Rencher as an example. His girlfriend now fiancee has built several hundred thousand followers on youtube, instagram just showing what kind of smoothie she and Darien are having for breakfast. She's making thousands of dollars on product endorsements as she shows her outfits for each ballgame etc.
It's a game of multiplication and the Clemson twitter account is one of the multipliers!

yep all of this! sponsored posts on twitter/insta/tiktok and all have affiliated links to them so if someone buys something from that link, there is commission involved.
there are people that make their livelihood on social media, and aren't even athletes.

This is misleading. Most of the other big schools are allowing their players to use school branding in NIL and have jersey sale profit sharing. Look up UNC and see the company behind it. I suspect that was part of why we lost recruits to them in 2022 cycle.
