Moral dilemma need advice

I’m a big soccer fan but I’ve never really followed the English Premier League or Champions league, mostly because the games are in the morning/early afternoon, so they’re tough to catch. I also don’t have any affiliation with any of the teams, so without a horse in the race I have less incentive to keep up.
However over the past month I’ve managed to watch nearly all the weekend games. Typically when I watch soccer it’s team USA, so I am accustomed to rather mediocre play. But watching these guys in the EPL is like watching a totally different sport, so much more entertaining and exciting. So I figured it was time to pick a team to support to make things more interesting.
I didn’t want to jump on the bandwagon of a big club like Man Utd. But I also didn’t want to pick a team that sucks either. The more I thought about it the more one team kept standing out as the right one.
Tottenham Hotspur
Currently 3rd in the EPL and having just knocked off Man City in the 1/4 finals of the champions league in what is one of the craziest games I have ever seen. Tottenham seems to be up and coming, similar to Clemson in the mid 2010s. I really like a lot of their players and their manager has a bit of Dabo in him. They seemed like the perfect team to support until ....
I realized what their mascot is.
Tottenham HotSPUR. That’s right. It’s a gd chicken. They have a giant freaking rooster on the top of their brand new stadium .......
Which brings me to my question. Does this automatically disqualify Tottenham from receiving my support, and furthermore, must I now always root against them?

I'm not very knowledgeable of soccer myself but I wouldn't consider Tottenham to be an up and coming team per say, they are generally pretty good and play in London, have a large following, been around forever, etc.
I like to go for the more out there premier league teams like Wolverhampton, or my favorite Newcastle United. If your team isn't at risk of being relegated you're not a true fan!

Maybe up and coming wasn’t the best choice of words. Yea they’ve been solid for a long time but I don’t know when the last time they’ve won the EPL is (20+ years). But it seems like over the past 5ish years they’ve elevated themselves from a top 10ish team to a top 5 team.

It's more than just the word "spur", my friend...

To Arsenal fans (like myself) and others, they are known as 'the chicken on the basketball'. See their logo...
They have had a good run of late, though. But like the 'Spur'rier era with our other chicken friends it will be fleeting. Sic transit gloria...

I believe the logical answer is to become an Arsenal supporter. Yes we are rebuilding as of late but you are not joining an evil empire like Chelsea or Man U, not joining the Man City bandwagon, and get to dump on the Spurs because of the history of the programs. Similar to the 5 in a row SCar run the Spurs are currently on a streak. Don't worry St Totteringham's Day will come again soon and I am confident Arsenal will be competing for championships again.

After they beat Man City I’m the champions league quarter finals, in the post game interview when asked about the would-have-been game winning Man City goal in stoppage time that was overturned by video replay for offside, their manager said “no matter what the outcome of that replay was I was proud of my players.” It reminded me of after the Syracuse game when asked about the 4th and 6 in the post game interview and Dabo said “No matter what happened on that play I was proud of my team.”

Tottenham isn't up and coming

they are a huge club.
If you aren't looking for the bandwagon but you want an up and coming team i'd support Wolverhampton. Wolves are newly promoted and find themselves 8th in the EPL. They might not have the flash of a Tottenham or a City but they have some gems in Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho, and Rui Patricio. And a promising manager in Nuno Espirito Santo. He can get very animated and is a players coach kind of like Dabo. I'm not saying they'll challenge for top 4 in the next few seasons and they aren't as good nor do they have the money of Pochottino's boys at Tottenham, but you won't find a harder working bunch.

I'll be a Chelsea fan for the foreseeable future

I'm a big fan of Pulisic, so I'll be a Chelsea fan. I know it's supposed to work the other way, but he is my "in" to the EPL. I'd love to pull for ManU -- and I do respect their history and coach -- but it's like pulling for the Patriots. I just can't do it.
But glad there is another fan of "the beautiful game".

So I'm not looking forward to CP going there. Love watching Dortmund though. And I would equate Liverpool to the Patriots. United is a blue blood no doubt. In college football probably Ohio State ish. I'm a United man myself but really just love watching the beautiful game so I'll watch about any match I can. Hopefully we can Ashley Young during the off-season and find a real right back. We need center backs too but apparently we aren't going after any.

after reading your post, it is MORAL, just not a dilemma (at least for a Clemson fan.)
Need I say more?

our son played soccer year round and we have been fans since he was a wee lad. I'm pleasantly surprised at the number of Tneters who are fans of the BPL.
I can not possibly encourage you to support the spurs. Our neighbor and great friend, grew up a several generation West Ham fan. They have over 100 years of hatred, further fueled by the docks on the Thames. Years ago the dock workers from east London (West Ham) went on strike for better working conditions, and east London workers (Tot) worked as 'scabs'. They will still hate each other in a hundred years.
By the way did you notice you will have to wear gear with a chicken on it ?

Or Newcastle, which were entertaining in the 90's with a couple of Australia's top players. I don't equate any UK side with anything American...nor pay attention to mascots, so never gave a thought to HotSpurs. My boys like the Gunners...and can't abide that selection.
If you want to get 'down and dirty' on the thuggish side of English football...embrace Milwall. The stands will likely provide the most entertainment...or the streets outside...and...eventually...into the pubs.

As a Clemson Tiger, there is only one premier League team that is suitable to follow; Everton.
The People's Club. Known throughout it's history for playing an attractive, attacking brand of football, gaining them the nickname of the "School of Science". Founded in 1878, they were a founder member of the Football League in 1888. They are the 4th most successful side in English history, although they haven't won a major trophy since 1995. The fans are known for being knowledgeable about the game, and for being very sporting in their and appreciation of opponent's good play. Unlike some clubs, who have followed a win at all costs attitude, and been involved in illegal or immoral dealings, Everton have always been known for doing things in the correct manner.
