Sometimes in a game you're not going to be able to catch a ball the normal standard way. Anybody trying to catch the football with a defender coming through their may have to make an acrobatic adjustment and catch the ball. That technique looks like it is conditioning the hand...wrist ...and forearm strength that may get in awkward positions while trying to make that crucial important catch. I've seen how some receivers use that very similar arm and hand extension over a defenders helmet and pads to come up with that catch.

Just spit out my coffee. But it’s not going to be long before we see them during a game.

You see folks catch it like this, which looks very difficult, and in game will miss a routine catch. The simple ones seem to be the hardest at times.

Thanks for sharing CUengGrad93. There are several different coaching techniques used today for receivers and tight-ends depends on the comfort level and game situation but the thing I liked the most in this video is the player is catching it with barehands. Personally I would outlaw gloves for whoever receives in a game be they Pro/College/HighSchool.

We need to bring in Renfrow’s Mom to throw to them.
If you never heard Renfrow explain how he learned to catch a football you are missing out.

I disagree. I had some receiver gloves that were darn near stickum. I found DB Cooper one day after a game stuck to my gloves. Quite impressive. The wetter they got the stickier that got.

I don’t care how they catch. Just catch. Feet. Hands. Thighs. Just catch the ball.

Are you just inventing things to complain about? He’s practicing using his hands in different ways. We all did that back in the day.

Nuk Hopkins is a great example of how to use the jugs machine...
Nuk would practice catching laying down, on his side, sitting up, standing up, backwards, left handed, right handed, and he did this for HOURS and HOURS building muscle memory of catching the RIGHT way.
That's the blueprint for improving your catching ability.
What we are seeing there is just stooooopid and seems like muscle memory would cause a lot of drops practicing like that.

Used to sit on the hill and watch the WR drills coming into the East end zone. The inestimable Jerry Butler would manage a pass with his fingertips for what seemed like hours before pulling it with both hands to his chest. Sae him do that over and over.
Seemed like the idea was to make the difficult become routine. Remember The Catch.
