Roughing the passer penalty that wasn’t called initially and 5 mins later they called it

There was a roughing the passer called with no on field flag. It was roughing the passer because the defender hit his head but it came like 5 mins later. Bizarre. Not as bizarre as the announcers clamoring it should’ve been targeting. Which it wasn’t. Supposedly you can’t review a non penalty but they added one.

The commentators were absolutely gargling Pitt's balls all game. I've never heard a more unprofessional display from the commentary team, they would question EVERY single play or flag that favored Clemson. But the play itself I summed up in another thread.
"Imagine you're bending the corner into the interior of the offensive line as fast as you can run.... you're 2 steps away from the QB and you see the QB pump his arm to throw...you have a half second to react....so you throw your arms up to block the pass....instead the QB drops his arm and lowers his head. Your forearm collides with his facemask. Maybe I'm just old school, but that's what we call a bang-bang play. Anything in slow motion looks worse, but at full speed it was a micro second decision. There was nothing malicious in the hit, and the refs got it right the first time. The crowd / jumbotron is what changed their opinion."

Thought the targeting call on Sammy Brown wasn’t a penalty. The ESPN “rules” analyst explained exactly why it was (crown of helmet with forceful contact intent to a defenseless player). Then there was the BS roughing the passer flag that wasn’t thrown for several minutes after the play (injury timeout). Ref from way far away from the play threw it after watching the jumbotron replay. Complete BS.

Ya the play was targeting by rule, but only if you stretch the meaning. It was a soft call, but I loved seeing a hit like that. It reminded me of the Matt Ryan hit

Brown’s hit is the very definition of targeting. You’re in denial if you think otherwise.
The refs were bad all around. The roughing the passer against Pitt on Cade wasn’t even close to roughing the passer. That officiating crew needs some serious auditing.

Well, since we’re calling penalties late after crowd and coach reaction, and after seeing it on the video screen, can we go back to the Louisville game and get that holding call when their OL grabbed our DL around the neck and prevented him from making the tackle? It probably would take a TD off the board. That was a huge no call.
My point is, the refs missed the Louisville call, and even after it was clearly displayed on the video board, they stuck with it as they should have. They missed it, and that’s how it goes. The same should have happened today.

I don't think I ever saw a targeting call even being made when the helmet went to the chest when it was clearly a reasonable play within a tenth of a second from release, much less being upheld. About a dozen helmit leads against CU, must be no problem. And don't even mention the uncalled holds essentially every Pitt offensive play.
Both teams got screwed by incompetent refs, but much more Clemson when it counted.
And my Lord, what a screwed up telecast. No commentators til the second half, just cround noise and good enough because when they showed up they did nothing but slob Pitt and criticise any call that did not favor them. This is what we pay for from eSECpn?

Clemson has so many calls in their favor today

that call was an elbow to the face from a Clemson defender . it was whatever on a whatever play.
we got bailed out a few times for first downs earlier in the game. one could argue that those calls actually decided the game

On both sides. So many weird no calls in that one. Like obvious off sides and obvious false start at the goal line for Pitt. We were held so many times and never called the first one. And then that one you’re talking about…. Just odd odd game
