Madison Cawthorn calling Zelensky a thug

Mar 11, 2022, 11:30 AM

Yet another Trump disciple. The GOP better work on distancing itself from the extreme right. These people (along with other Trump supporters) are the reason they lose the mainstream vote.

I'm not into the details of Mr. Cawthorn, but he seems to be heading to a bad place...

Re: Madison Cawthorn calling Zelensky a thug

He’s a college dropout whose only accomplishment in life was suing his friend’s insurance company after they got in a car wreck. He’s a real life twitter troll who has no business holding the office he does.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He must be one of Tucker Carlson's 4.7 million GOP viewers.

It is true that Ukraine was known as corrupt for a long

Mar 11, 2022, 12:10 PM

time before Biden and Trump. In the binary way we do politics now, Zelensky has become a hero, which he is in a certain context. One can't look at different aspects of things without being placed into a predefined camp. If you're not fully pro Ukraine, you're pro Putin. Perhaps a major difference between Putin and Zelensky is who invaded who.

I'm not saying what this guy said did or did not have merit. Sounds a little fringy. At a minimum, was the wrong time and place. Don't name your son Madison.

One of them is a former KGB 20+ year authoritarian tyrant who poisons his political rivals and is murdering Ukrainian civilians.

The other is a popular actor who recently won 70%+ of his country’s popular vote in a free election, wants to move his country to ally more with the West, who is rallying his people to defend their country.

There is no “both-sides-ing” this issue.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not in our culture there's not, I'll grant you that.

Mar 11, 2022, 12:27 PM

By pointing out how bad Putin is, you think you've shown how good Zelensky. Fine.

Z is on the side of the angels for the next little bit. No problem. And we have to make immediate decisions. But at some point this will be over and we have to know who we're dealing with. We've messed up in getting to this point, so maybe we might rethink the next 10 years? Nah.

Re: Not in our culture there's not, I'll grant you that.

Mar 11, 2022, 12:32 PM

You can pretty plainly and easily look into who Zelensky is and where he came from. He literally played the Ukrainian president on a Veep-esque sitcom. You can also view his really impressive leadership the last few weeks without cynically assuming he’s not what he appears to be. Drawing contrast is a nice way to distinguish the two aside from, as you’d suggested, maybe one just invaded the other.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Sure, one can admire his leadership in this situation

Mar 11, 2022, 12:35 PM

without cynically assuming things. One can also admire his leadership without ignorantly assuming things. One can. But one may not, apparently.

Edit: "Easily and plainly", eh? Not saying these links represent the last word. Just saying that adopting an all or nothing view of things is dangerous in a situation like this. A couple of points of view prior to the invasion:

In my opinion, thank God they don't limit this site to just your position! I think Hitler only wanted one and Putin only wants one opinion also. You fit right in!

Ditto to you! Your post that inspired my response said "Putin’s obvious flaws. ... That’s why I also read the Russian papers. there’s some good info that helps explain where they’re coming from with the whole NATO thing". You never said "Putin was wrong" and the last line does not justify the invasion of a free country and murdering of Ukranian civilians! As 15 said, there is no bothsidesing this!

And what makes you think I'm a fat ### old man? You have some special hacking skills in which you can see me? ####, my wife says I'm still the shid! Wonder what yours says about you?

I know history fine, Bush said he looked into Putin's eyes and saw someone very straightforward and trustworthy and Obama wanted to "reset" relations with a killer. You now say "Putin was wrong here" and then justify his actions with some weak ### shid. NATO is not an offensive alliance.

LOL, yeah T3 & I have a little ongoing problem with each other. I enjoy getting under his thin skin and then he resorts to throwing out personal stuff like "I'm a fat ### old man" and a "poosay" which he edited out several times this morning. So, who is the 9th grader again? Oh and possibly your personal political stance, which aligns more with T3, is affecting your opinion? Anyway, I could care less about the opinion of someone that posts more racial BS and Covid misinformation than anyone on this board ...

Hero du jour, and we gave him a rousing standing ovation at a state of the union? Yeah, how’d that turn out?

I admire Zelensky for what he’s doing right now…frankly I wish I felt our leaders had the backbone he’s displaying now. At the end of the day, he’s a friend and reliable ally only in the sense that he’s also against our enemy.

He apparently is also a graduate of the Andre Bauer Driving School. Just got popped for a second offense of driving with a revoked license since 2017.

Likes to drive fast too. One would think ending up paralyzed from an MVA would make one more cautious.

Surely he will get a more sober primary challenger.

Just read his webpage and bills he's sponsored/supported. What makes him "extreme right".

This one is my fave: "Today, U.S. Congressman Madison Cawthorn (NC-11) introduced legislation stating that if President Biden sends any United States troops to the Russia/Ukraine border, he must also send the same number to the U.S./Mexico Border."
