Does that fall into the "I quit" or "I'm declaring myself a free agent" category?

I agree, if the school has met all the financial agreements as stated he is the one breaking the contract. I imagine as others posted he is getting larger offers from other schools. It sucks he is quitting on his teammates.

The coach should not have said a word.... Any comment should have been referred to their collective.

All college players are now essentially free agents.

He probably is not getting the NIL deal he thought he was going to get and so back into the portal he goes I guess. This is no different then players sitting out bowl games to get ready for the NFL draft. It is a "business decision" they are making. If UNLV promised this QB something and backed out of it then I guess I don't blame him for sitting out. I just hope his hand is as strong as he thinks it is because he has made it crystal clear that he has no allegiance to a program. It is all business.

Somebody probably came along and offered him a lot more to redshirt this season and come play for them next year. It'll be interesting to see where he ends up.

Reading the comments....apparently there's a rumor sluka was trying to renegotiate his nil deal weekly. Obviously no proof it's true but it wouldn't surprise me the given the current atmosphere in college football.

Another indication that college football (as we knew it) is screwed. Hope the greedy punk gets what he deserves and never plays college football again - we'll call it a teaching moment. This me > us attitude is pathetic - disappointed for his teammates though.

If he redshirts, they're in the hook for the semester.
If he left school, there's nothing to bill him for.

This is problem with NIL. You don't get to negotiate your salary any place every week. He obviously is going to leave UNLV for more money elsewhere. If I was the NIL collective, I would request the money back as he hasn't held up his end of the deal. If the portal wasn't a free for all, then this wouldn't be happening. This is exactly why there needs to be contracts in college football asap! I hate it just as much as anyone else, but that will be the only thing that remotely saves any part of what College Football used to look like.

I think the biggest unanswered question is will any of his future teammates trust him? He ran out on one team already, what is to stop him from doing it again?? This is really a broken situation!!

I'll hold my opinion until more data leaks but we have already seen a UF commit file suit since he walked away from NIL deals in Miami and was left blowing in the wind by Napier's staff and some boosters. This will lead to NIL contracts which may be a good thing. I wouldn't mind seeing NIL correct some of the portal mess. If Carl's BBQ builds a marketing campaign around 4-star DB then 4-star DB needs to play in Carl's BBQ customer base. Else, they forfeit all NIL funds and marketing campaign expenses.
