Is there any way not to be punished for playing in weak conf
Nov 4, 2012, 9:41 PM

I can't think of any way to change this unfair situation except to hold my breath and stamp my feet, can you? We had no choice but to continue being in the ACC forever, did we? We knew we are really playing in a basketball conference, didn't we?

Remember, we thought adding Allbarn would help us, but that didn't turn out too well.

V-tech has won 10 games every year for a decade. Not this year. Auburn won a national title two years ago. Not this year. Georgia Tech is usually better. Had we faced FSU at home I think we would have won. We just drew a bad hand this year.

Bingo. Not much you can do. Auburn 99 times out of 100 would be a quality non-conference game.
We got a raw deal with the entire Coastal tanking in the same season and getting FSU on the road.

And yet we're on track for an At-Large BCS bid.

If we beat a Top 10 South Carolina team at home in a few weeks we'll jump and we'll get the at-large bid. If we don't beat them, we didn't deserve the at-large bid.

Don't lose...

And frankly, the fact that Auburn sucks so bad is just as damaging as playing in the ACC. In fact, it may be worse. Don't lose to Florida State and Clemson is likely in the top 6 or 7 right now.

We wait for the ACC to rebound, it's a down conference, not long ago Miami, Florida State, and Virginia Tech were legit national contenders. We just need to wait for them to bounce back when we can have NC State, Virginia Tech, Miami, FSU, and UNC all as decent teams contending for an ACC title and possibly a few of them in the top 25 or top 15 it will start to help our strength of schedule. Until then all we can do is schedule a strong OOC schedule to help even out playing Duke and Wake Forest.

The SEC has shown that what you need is 4-5 teams

that don't lose more than 2 games, and maybe 2 teams that don't lose more than 1 game. We don't need EVERYONE to be good, because then you have a bunch of 7-5 teams once everyone's done beating up on each other, and that's how the computers kill you.
The ACC needs 4 DOMINANT teams (preferably CU, FSU, Miami, Va Tech), and the rest can't beat those 4 teams. That's what it will take.

be as good if we were in a different conference. We are being judged, not punished.

Boise State proved you could be a threat in a lame conference by beating everyone. THAT is what we should be doing. It starts NEXT YEAR!

I don't see how being an undefeated ACC team automatically

gets you anything --- If we can be ranked beneath an SEC school with 2 losses when we have only one lass would seem to indicate we could be ranked under several one loss teams when we are undefeated. Right?

Your whining isn't gonna change anything. We're in the top 14 where you have to be. If we win out we'll be in top 8 as many have to play each other

It isn't rocket science. Yep, the ACC is weaker this year for some reason. But Pitt showed a lot of fight against Notre Dame and should have won the game. There is hope for the future if Pitt and Syracuse stand up.

IDK, playing in a strong conference doesn't seem to help out either. Just ask UF and the coots. If the BCS ended today, both have a 100% chance of not playing in a BCS game.

SEC will have two in the BCSGames. They would have three or four if the rules would allow it. Alabama And two of following Florida Georgia LSU South Carolina

"No more than two teams from any one conference may receive berths in BCS games unless two non-champions from an AQ conference finish as the top two teams in the final BCS standings, in which case they will meet in the National Title Game while their conference champion will play in their conference's BCS bowl game."

It's time to move out of the ACC. Get in the SEC. The only hope for the ACC is when Notre Dame is on board, our top schools crush OOC teams and our mid-grade schools win OOC games as well.
Seems like a tall order many years in the making.
Being in the SEC will boost Clemson's recruiting as well, plus set Clemson above the others in the conference when it comes to academics/grades as most SEC schools are state schools - aside from Vandy.

Obviously, there are a number of teams that are overrated, esp., by the bcs because of the conference they play in even though most play a weak schedule outside the conference. It is not so much we are being punished as it is other teams being given the benefit of the doubt. It will play out by the end of the season. We should be OK, as long as we don't take anybody lightly.

the weak conference. There will be a playoff in 2 years, and a 13-0 ACC team WILL make the field.
