What we learned today

In my opinion..

- A 12 team CFP is unnecessary
- There are at most 3-4 teams in the NCAA that would have a chance at beating UGA.
- The gap between the top 4-5 teams and the rest of the top 25 is vast..
- We’re probably a top 10-15 team and could very well win out….ESPN fpi is probably right 80% +probability of us losing to UGA if we played 10 times…
- NIL + finances and willingness to buy HS kids and portal players + ability and history of winning championships are all needed to be a top 4-5 program… very few teams check all those boxes..
- The teams that do have more depth of talent and experience than anyone else..
- We can complain about play calling or whatever else ..but football isn’t rocket science …the first half was fairly even but eventually we were overwhelmed by the depth of talent and experience and UGA.. no amount of sophisticated play calling will overcome that…

That’s it ..that’s where college football stands..
Clemson and whole host of other teams will never win a national championship again … unless something systematically changes…

We can and may win out this season..but it won’t matter ….we’d just be playing for a good showing in the CFP…

NIL and the transfer portal have created a certain level of parity…among all but the top 4-5 teams …Those teams are now at a whole different level..

This team is not one of the top 12 teams in the country and it shows. While we may win 7-9 games we don’t belong in the top 12 with no offense

Sure we are….
Today wasn’t about anything other than a college team facing a semi-professional team….and I’m not implying UGA is cheating..it’s all within the rules now …

Every one whining about specifics of play calling today or anything else is missing the point…

UGA is a monster at this point …they have the money and the willingness to spend it ….and the history to gain the attention of any player they want…

are now employees. You think that QB at TN that’s making 2 million a year gives a rat a&& about a TN degree? You think a default student from there will make 8 million over his 20-30 year professional career after getting his degree? Maybe but 4 years vs 30 is a little different. This ain’t about school anymore if you want a seat at the table, if you don’t just admit and we can reset expectations.

No one cares anymore dude. No one. They get paid. They buy chains. They get cars.

They created this.

They don't care about school. Just that they started playing in a schoolyard and now get to make more money off our tax dollar high school teams.

That's it. Finito.

Simple.

Regardless, this is not a playoff caliber team. Neither was last year or the year before. NIL aside, this scheme and coaching is both stale and bad. NIL doesn't explain WRs who can't get open, players who aren't developing, or not playing your top 2 wr recruits in favor of underperformed 3 stars. If we're gonna pay a head coach one of the top salaries, on par with UGA, at least he can make top level coaching decisions. This team was unprepared and it showed.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That UGA team is good but not great. We on the other hand

We’re nowhere near what UGA has become in the era of NIL and transfer portals…

As I stated in my original post there is a huge gap between the top few teams in the NCAA right now …a 12 team playoff is unnecessary…

You think there are 11 teams that wouldn’t get abused like we did today? There ‘s maybe 2-3 at most in my opinion…

Ok….
There are a few teams that would have been competitive team …we aren’t one of them …

Everyone talking about how awful we are is completely ignoring what we were up against…

Two of the top UGA receivers today were bought by Kirby in the portal …within whatever amounts to rules today..

Dabo is not going to buy players…and I don’t fault him for that honestly …

You look at your depth chart then you go shopping in the portal …or you pull out your check book and buy Nate Frazier…likely the best HS rb last year…

UGA has the money …the willingness to shop…and the ability to win..

Winning still matters … get your bag and then play for a winner too…

And I don't even know if we are a top 25 team this year. I hoped CK2 had improved, but doesn't look like it's the case. As bad as qb play has been lost T-Law, the WR play might be worse.

Clemson has $$ too, we just use it to pay our staff. Clemson has one of the largest, highest paid staffs in the country; one of the nicest facilities; one of the biggest recruiting budgets; and probably one of the largest food budgets..,

Clemson has $$ they just choose to use it in the above mentioned ways vs all on NIL

The season will prove out my point …don’t be shocked if we in out …go the CFP … and advance until we face a top 2-3 team at which point we will be dismantled just like today….

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Second, stop blaming NIL and the portal. They aren’t the problem, Dabo’s unwillingness to fully embrace them is the problem.

We have plenty of money to compete in this era, Dabo just doesn’t want to.

How many times did I mention willingness? Numerous times…

No one can say we aren’t top 10-15 based on today either….

We aren’t top 4-5… but the gap between 5 and 6 or 7 is huge ….there’s a huge gap between what UGA has become and the majority of college football…

Your post and perspective are sound. We are good, maybe even really good, but not elite as you stated. I don’t see anyone on our schedule (including Miami in the acccg) as better than us but after that, Bama, OSU, UGA, are currently playing a different game.

We fall out of the top 25 and we'll lose at least one or 2 of the next four games. So yes, we can in fact say we aren't a top 15 team.

Yes … brilliant adjustments..

Fatigue our D …football isn’t rocket science…

UGA has more depth of talent and experience by a large margin…versus any other team right now…which still points directly back to the point I’m making…

I think you might be in for a shock. UGA will likely lose a game this year - maybe 2. They have Texas, UT, Auburn, Alabama, and Ole Miss. Auburn would be a long shot but the others are all very capable of beating the dogs. Clemson is simply mediocre at best. Turn the calander back a year. Duke blew Clemson out and they started 4-4. Clemson will struggle to navigate the lowly ACC. Todays game simply confirms that Clemson has no WR's (that played), a poor O Line, inconsistent QB, no RB depth, and predictable play calling. It's mostly just an instant replay from last year. Thank goodness the conference is way down or we might be struggling to make a bowl.

Our schedule isn’t stacked…

Who on our schedule do you think we can’t beat?

There’s not a team on our schedule left we can’t beat….

FSU? They’ve been exposed already..
VT lost to Vanderbilt today…
NCSU was unimpressive in their opener as well…

Outside of UGA those teams were supposed to be our toughest opponents…it’s a very winnable schedule..

The sky is falling today ..I guess.. but I’d be willing to bet UGA will do that to lots of teams…

We will not face a team close to their caliber during the season…we’d have to go deep into the playoffs to see a UGA caliber team..

I agree with much of what you said, but we were not out talented. We were out coached. We have top 5 talent and an article came out this past week that says as much. I have zero problem only using the portal occasionally and developing young talent you’ve recruited provided that you have good player retention (check) and excellent coaches to develop said talent (miserable fail at several positions). When Dabo was winning and developing talent he had top tier coaching to do so. I have no issue with hiring Clemson men to coach, but I’m sorry Clemson is not a school you come to to learn how to coach. Inappropriate when you have an administration essentially willing to give you everything you want. Obvious example of this is the one position on the field that was clearly better today was the OL (top tier coach). Name me the last receiver we had who actual got markedly better from freshman to Sr??? I don’t the our DC is bad by any means but he is not proven elite. Garrett Riley?? Has Cade gotten better? Idk maybe a little. Is the play-calling elite? Did we put our foot on the gas and play with a sense of urgency when we got behind?? We need to keep a few but revamp a good portion of the staff with top tier proven commodities and maybe we can get this turned around. Clemson is a place a lot of talented coaches would love to come to and coach. I’m not ready to give up on Dabo but he is the CEO and he needs to make major changes or we will be left behind.
