Is Monte Lee the Right Man for Clemson?

They may win the World Series this year, or they may have a losing season. My guess is the Clemson baseball team will finish a few games above .500. In any case, I don't feel Clemson will return to the College World Series for a long time. It will take quite some time to get out of this situation.

But there is definitely room for question now while just a couple years ago he was still considered a home run hire and absolute.

here is an idea. wait till after say at least one week to determine we suck. they have these things called recruiting classes and freshmen that were not even there last year. plus there are several pitchers that we were counting on last year that had surgery. baseball is way different than football. a few new stud players may appear from nowhere. there are truly some pathetic individuals on this site. here is an idea. go watch the impeachment trial

Monte is playing with his own guys now. I just want to see season to season improvement. I don't think this can be straightened out overnight, but I also don't think it's a no-win situation. Sure private schools have a lot more flexibility with scholarships, but we should be able to overcome that with superior facilities, coaches, girls, etc...

There is no scholarship advantage between Vanderbilt and Clemson. They both have 11.7 athletic scholarships available.
This is my 3rd time correcting this blatantly false notion before this season has even begun. Gonna keep count this year.

Look for how much Dansby Swanson paid to play baseball there. Or how the TOPS program has benefitted LSU for years. And now the HOPE scholarship in Georgia.
It is a HUGE advantage.

They have 11.7 scholarships like everyone else in NCAA Division 1. You are referring to financial aid. That is an entirely different subject and one no one ever actually ones to dive into. They just want to cry about Vanderbilt and pretend Tim Corbin has nothing to do with it.

It has nothing to do with scholarship numbers it is Vandy and schools like UVA huge endowments. They give scholarships to all students whose family is below a certain income. Since it applies to all students , athletes can take advantage of it too. It does not count against the 11.7 but still gives a scholarship to an athlete they could not have received at a lot of other schools. vandy endowment is several billion dollars and Clemson is like 700 million, around 2nd lowest in ACC

Right, and I was responding to someone claiming they have more scholarships to give. Financial aid is not a scholarship. Lots of schools, public and private, use a sliding scale for cost of attendance based on demonstrated financial need. This is a whole other, very complex issue. One that long predates the rise of the Vanderbilt and Virginia baseball programs. It should not be used as an excuse for deficiencies in our baseball program. It certainly wasn’t taken into consideration when dismissing Leggett.

I don't know if Monte Lee will or won't win a World Series at Clemson. I think that it takes a lot of guts to be willing to discipline a player such as he did with Michael Green, especially considering the implications that such a decision may have on the trajectory of the year. The pitching should be improved from last year, and despite Green's dismissal and Hennessey's injury-induced retirement Clemson's baseball squad will have a great year
